Accelerating Agriculture Productivity Improvement (AAPI) USAID-Bangladesh Cooperative Agreement Number AID-388-A-10-00002 Quarterly Progress Report (April-June 2012) Overview This is the seventh Quarterly Progress Report (QPR) of the Accelerating Agriculture Productivity Improvement (AAPI) project. It covers work completed during April 1-June 30, 2012, with cumulative figures for year 1 and the first two quarters of the 18-month AAPI Scale-Up program. 1 The following summary provides an overview of project results (including Feed the Future [FTF] indicators set by USAID), deliverables and key activities completed during the quarter. Further details and a discussion of issues and outlook are provided in the main text. The targets herein were set in the AAPI approved annual workplan and the Scale-Up Operational Plan. They include the indicators governed by the Performance and Impact Indicators that are specified in Attachment 2 of the Cooperative Agreement (CA). It should be noted that in this report the terms Guti urea, urea deep placement (UDP) and fertilizer deep placement (FDP) are used. Guti urea refers to the urea briquettes. UDP refers to the deep placement of the urea briquettes. FDP is the generic term and refers to deep placement of any fertilizer briquettes, usually either urea or Nitrogen (N) Phosphorus (P) Potassium (K). Results The Boro crop was harvested during the quarter and the Aus crop started transplantation. The AAPI results are disaggregated by 20 FTF districts and the Mymensingh and Sherpur (M&S) districts. Of the seven FTF core indicators, the projecct has met or exceeded targets in three. Another two, value of incremental sales and individuals receiving training were new indicators and did not have targets set in the operational plan. The remaining three that were below target all had mitigating circumstances. The area under FDP in this quarter was down due to the drought that prevented transplantation of the Aus crop. 1 A scale-up of activities under the Feed the Future (FTF) initiative of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). viii
