understand dactylic hexameter and be able to scan it; understand and be able to recognize figures <strong>of</strong> speech<br />

commonly used by Vergil in the “Aeneid”; be well familiar with the political, social, and cultural history <strong>of</strong> Rome<br />

from 753 BCE to the times <strong>of</strong> Augustus; be familiar with the “Odyssey” <strong>of</strong> Homer. Course <strong>of</strong>fering depends on<br />

enrollment and staffing.<br />

HEALTH<br />

800 Health Education 0.5 Credit<br />

This course is designed to examine the many risk behaviors that teenagers may encounter during adolescence.<br />

Through the course, students will learn how to maintain, reinforce, and enhance their personal health, as well as<br />

develop lifelong thinking skills related to choosing healthy behaviors. Students will have the opportunity to assess<br />

their lifestyle and choices through various class activites and learn how to make informed, education decisions<br />

about health. Areas <strong>of</strong> study will include personal and community health, substance abuse and addiction, chronic<br />

and infectious diseases, nutrition, growth and development, sexual health, and basic anatomy and physiology <strong>of</strong><br />

some organ systems.<br />

Required for graduation.<br />

840 Intro to Sports Medicine 0.5 Credit<br />

This course is designed for students in grades 11 and 12 with an interest in fields such as athletic training,<br />

physical therapy, orthopedic medicine, fitness, exercise physiology, and strength and conditioning. The course<br />

work will focus on the following areas <strong>of</strong> instruction: First Aid and CPR, emergency procedures, anatomy and<br />

physiology, basic prevention, evaluation and treatment <strong>of</strong> athletic injuries, as well as an investigation into various<br />

sports medicine careers. The course will provide students with an opportunity to examine the musculoskeletal<br />

system <strong>of</strong> the human body, as well as learn basic techniques for preventing and treating common athletic injuries.<br />

Prerequisite: Biology and Health Education. Juniors and Seniors only. Offered Semester 2.<br />

MATHEMATICS<br />

The following is a list <strong>of</strong> our course <strong>of</strong>ferings for the academic year. Read each course description carefully and<br />

consult with your parents, counselor, and mathematics teacher for additional information and recommendations<br />

before selecting a course for next year.<br />

202 Math Lab 0.5 Credit<br />

This is a semester long course that would be taken in addition to a regular Math class. Teachers will select<br />

students who will benefit from more time on concepts. Students will receive additional support, will learn<br />

strategies for solving problems, and for taking standardized tests. They will practice essential pre-algebra and<br />

algebra skills that are the foundation for success in other Math classes. Students will maintain a notebook,<br />

complete daily assignments, and participate in classroom activities.<br />

Earns elective credit.<br />

210 Algebra 1 Standard 1 Credit<br />

This class is designed for students who would benefit from some review and practice <strong>of</strong> basic skills, while learning<br />

the basic concepts <strong>of</strong> Algebra 1. The topics include solving equations, inequalities, functions, systems, exponents,<br />

polynomials, data analysis and probability. Students will maintain a notebook, complete daily homework<br />

assignments and participate in classroom activities.<br />

Prerequisite: Recommendation <strong>of</strong> 8th grade teacher.<br />
