954A Micros<strong>of</strong>t Word/Access WRVC<br />

Students will learn the Word and Access components <strong>of</strong> Office 2007. They will learn skills in Word that they can<br />
use to complete assignments in other classes. Areas covered include the use <strong>of</strong> shortcuts, organizing content<br />
using page layout options, tabs, styles, macros, tables, format painter; formatting documents such as newsletters,<br />
memos, letters, labs, agendas, outlines; and completing mail merges. Students will learn how to create simple<br />
database structures with Micros<strong>of</strong>t Access and design reports and queries. For students planning to major in<br />
business in college, this class will greatly benefit them. A student’s grade is based on completion <strong>of</strong> assigned<br />
work, preparation <strong>of</strong> a portfolio, demonstration <strong>of</strong> skills acquired, and practicing workplace behaviors.<br />
954B Micros<strong>of</strong>t Excel/PowerpointWRVC<br />
0.5 Credit<br />
Students will learn the Excel and PPT components <strong>of</strong> Office 2007. Colleges and most employers assume<br />
students know how to use these s<strong>of</strong>tware applications. In this class, students will learn how to use Excel for<br />
personal use, schoolwork, and business applications. Areas covered include entering text and data, entering<br />
formulas, using conditional statements and formatting, filtering data, formatting data, creating macros, graphing<br />
and much more. Often times students believe they are competent users <strong>of</strong> a s<strong>of</strong>tware application because they<br />
know how to do something with the application. However, in this class students will quickly realize how much<br />
better <strong>of</strong>f they are from formal training. They will become more pr<strong>of</strong>icient users <strong>of</strong> Micros<strong>of</strong>t Excel and PPT.<br />
954C Human Resource Mgt WRVC<br />

This management course is about how to manage your “resources”—both internal and external. The focus will be<br />
on the management functions related to people—communications, hiring, interviewing, setting expectations and<br />
goals, implementing and enforcing policies, rewards and recognition, negotiating, and personnel development.<br />
Students will learn about the role and work <strong>of</strong> managers, different leadership styles, the types <strong>of</strong> power, and other<br />
topics related to personnel. Whether you would like to operate a business <strong>of</strong> your own, work in a management<br />
position, or work as a valuable and valued employee for a company, you will benefit from learning about human<br />
resources management. A student’s grade is based on completion <strong>of</strong> assigned work, class participation,<br />
practicing workplace behaviors, quizzes and tests, and the organization <strong>of</strong> a notebook.<br />
954D Business Operations Mgt WRVC<br />

Students will learn about business operations management functions and have opportunities to practice the skills<br />
needed to be in the position <strong>of</strong> manager. They will learn about the development <strong>of</strong> a business plan and<br />
understand why it is important. They will also gain knowledge <strong>of</strong> financial management, inventory control,<br />
scheduling, strategic planning, and how to make financial decisions. A student’s grade is based on the completion<br />
<strong>of</strong> assigned work, participation in role playing, practicing workplace behaviors, quizzes and tests, and the<br />
organization <strong>of</strong> a notebook.<br />
955A Accounting/QuickBooks WRVC<br />
1 Credit<br />
Students will learn the accounting cycle <strong>of</strong> a sole proprietorship and partnership. They will become skilled at<br />
analyzing and journalizing business transactions, posting to individual ledger accounts, preparing a six-column<br />
worksheet and financial statements, preparing a payroll register, completing the necessary entries for payroll<br />
expenses, and working with special journals. Students should be able to keep a simple set <strong>of</strong> books upon<br />
completion <strong>of</strong> this course and prepare basic financial statements. Students will also learn the s<strong>of</strong>tware<br />
Quickbooks, a bookkeeping s<strong>of</strong>tware solution for small businesses. Students will learn how to track sales &<br />
expenses, create invoices, pay bills, and organize a small business’s finances. A student’s grade is based on the<br />
completion <strong>of</strong> assigned work, practicing workplace behaviors, and quizzes and tests.<br />
955B Adv Computer Applications WRVC<br />
0.5 Credit<br />
Students will complete a self-paced simulation that encompasses all <strong>of</strong> the Micros<strong>of</strong>t Office s<strong>of</strong>tware applications<br />
in a fun, real-world setting. In this simulation, students take on the role <strong>of</strong> a Micros<strong>of</strong>t Office Marketing Specialist<br />
to start their own pr<strong>of</strong>essional sports franchise team or business. From creating a business or team name and<br />
