ISB Overview<br />

The <strong>School</strong>:<br />

The <strong>International</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Belgrade</strong> was founded in 1948. The <strong>School</strong> is an<br />

independent, non-pr<strong>of</strong>it, coeducational day school, located on two campuses. ISB <strong>of</strong>fers a<br />

quality educational program from pre-kindergarten through Grade 12. Currently, <strong>the</strong> total<br />

student enrollment is 388, with 98 students in <strong>the</strong> high school. The language <strong>of</strong> instruction is<br />

English. The school strives to develop <strong>the</strong> “whole child” intellectually, emotionally, socially,<br />

creatively and physically.<br />

The Class <strong>of</strong> 2014 is <strong>the</strong> ninth graduating class in <strong>the</strong> history <strong>of</strong> ISB; it is <strong>the</strong> eighth IB Diploma<br />

Program cohort.<br />

The <strong>School</strong> Community:<br />

Is comprised <strong>of</strong> 46 different nationalities with approximately 18% from <strong>the</strong> United States<br />

and 24% Serbian as well as 58% <strong>of</strong> children from many different nations.<br />

<strong>School</strong> Calendar:<br />

The ISB school year has two semesters beginning in mid-August and mid-January with a<br />

total <strong>of</strong> 180 school days. We have a rotating 6 day block schedule with 45 minute periods.<br />

ISB Faculty:<br />

ISB has over 63 highly qualified and credentialed international and local staff, representing<br />

10 different countries.<br />

The average student teacher ratio is 15:1<br />

Maximum teaching class size is 18<br />

Curriculum:<br />

The rigorous high school curriculum (Grades 9 to 12) is guided by <strong>the</strong> IB Middle Years (MYP)<br />

and Diploma Programmes (DP). All ISB High <strong>School</strong> courses are college-preparatory in<br />

nature and are IB Courses–even for students who are taking <strong>the</strong> course at an ISB High<br />

<strong>School</strong> Diploma level. ISB students primarily attend universities in Europe, Canada and<br />

North America.<br />

Assuming all graduation requirements are met, we have three types <strong>of</strong> graduating students:<br />

1) All students receive an ISB High <strong>School</strong> Diploma.<br />

2) ISB Diploma plus Certificates in selected IB Courses<br />

3) ISB Diploma plus a Full IB Diploma<br />

IB Courses, if taken at <strong>the</strong> Standard or Higher level, (available in grades 11 and 12) are<br />

weighted – please see <strong>the</strong> grade descriptors for North America. The GPA (Grade Point Average)<br />

is calculated by dividing <strong>the</strong> total number <strong>of</strong> points earned under <strong>the</strong> correct category by <strong>the</strong><br />

number <strong>of</strong> courses taken. The GPA score earned is available on <strong>the</strong> report card and transcript in<br />

both Semesters 1 and 2.<br />

The GPA is cumulative only for classes taken at <strong>the</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Belgrade</strong>.<br />
