The benefits of Council developing and implementing a Cultural
Plan include:
• Creative skills are developed; opportunities and employment
in the creative industries are increased
• Providing strategic direction for the provision of cultural
services to the community
• Better public spaces, cultural infrastructure, a more vibrant
community life and increased community pride
• Providing an integrated approach to cultural planning
including actions from across the organisation to enhance the
quality of life for the community
• A commitment to the cultural wellbeing of the community,
including building social cohesion, enhancing cultural vitality
and promoting a sense of identity and belonging within the
community
Aims of the Cultural Plan
• Provide an integrated, ‘whole of council’ approach to
cultural planning which places culture strategically across the
organisation, not just focussing on arts-based outcomes
• Build the creative capacity of the community and remove the
obstacles for cultural expression within the community and
the region
