women & business Key4Women Resource Center opens Unique setting for women in business to meet, network Women business owners now have a place where they can come to meet with their peers, network with potential contacts and find resources to help their businesses succeed. The Key4Women Resource Center, located in the KeyBank branch on Wolf Road in Colonie, opened April 2 with a ribbon-cutting and a check presentation to St. Patrick’s Child Care Partnership Program. The center was designed based on input from the Chamber’s Women’s Business Council and offers women a comfortable, convenient location to conduct business. “KeyBank has embraced the Key4Women concept, and we want to engage our clients and prospective clients by making sure we’re adding value to their banking experience,” according to Karen Zalewski-Wildzunas, KeyBank’s senior vice president. :: library of publications and periodicals focused on business success :: conference room access for business meetings, by appointment The center also hosts unique networking and education events, including seminars on such relevant topics as becoming a certified woman-owned business, purchasing a home, even dealing with a traffic ticket. Not only are women starting businesses faster than any other segment of the population, but “statistically, 90 percent of business decisions in the home are made by women,” Zalewski-Wildzunas pointed out. From a practical standpoint, the resource center makes sense because of its location, Zalewski- Wildzunas said. “Everybody knows Wolf Road, and wherever you live or work in the Capital Region, it’s centrally located,” she said. “Many women in business work from home, and they don’t have space to conduct meetings, so the conference room, in particular, is ideal.” Women take a more philosophical approach to business, Zalewski-Wildzunas noted, and the Key4Women Resource Center provides like-minded individuals with a setting to exchange ideas. “We’re ponderers, we’re much more loyal,” she said. “Women are deep thinkers, and we must understand everything we’re pursuing before we commit. Women want to have it all –– the family, the business.
