Summer 2010 Page 14 IN Memory Randall Brake started as a Correctional Officer at Huttonsville Correctional Center on June 16, 1979, and on February 15, 1998, he moved into the Chaplain’s position. He was reallocated to Corrections Program Specialist Senior, on October 16, 2002, as two more Chaplains were added to the staff. Randy had a stroke while working at the facility on June 16, 2008, and was transported to the hospital. He was never able to return to work and retired effective July 1, 2009. Randy passed away on August 2, 2010. Huttonsville Correctional Center recently had two other employees pass away. Thomas Walden (pictured on left) was hired as a Correctional Officer in February 2008; he passed away on September 3, 2010. Joretta Coleman was hired as an Office Assistant II in December 2007 and promoted to Chaplain in July 2009. Joretta’s battle with cancer ended on August 31, 2010. Rhonda Bennett passed away on September 7, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. Cpl. Bennett was hired at St. Mary’s Correctional Center on June 1, 1998 as a Correctional Officer I, after being employed at the former Colin Anderson Center. On February 27, 2002 she was selected for Controlled Dangerous Substance K-9 Officer and after completing at 13-week training course with K-9 Raven (her first dog), she was promoted to the rank of Corporal on May 31, 2002. She was teamed up with her new and current K-9 partner Champ in 2003. These individuals will be missed by their Corrections Family.
