Every year we attend the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation,
(CPOF) Annual Memorial Ceremony, we say, “This
is the best one”, I don’t know how they improve every year,
but they always do. From the time you hit the front door of
the hotel, someone is there to send you in the right direction.
The fallen family honorees are treated with such respect by
everyone, not just the CPOF Employees and Volunteers.
I don’t know anyone who attends that is not touched by the
honoring of our fallen officers. I work in Corrections everyday
and in a maximum security environment for 10 years.
I am well aware of the dangers that our officers face each
day.
For anyone who works in corrections and is not a member,
I urge you to join. The work they do for our people in need
is phenomenal. They are only a phone call away when disaster
strikes.

I was so proud that the WV Honor Guard came this year. I
was moved by Jim Rubenstein, Commissioner of the West
Virginia Division of Corrections for his message about the
fallen miners and how our state pulled together for the families
and the media that came into our state to cover the story.
I would like to thank our CPOF Ray Wagoner for his hard
work on the golf tournament that raised $13,000 for the
CPOF.
And the Sunday morning prayer breakfast brought me to
tears. It was so sad to have to say goodbye to everyone for
another year.
