ICRIN Working Group<br />

Also in June, MMI established the ICRIN Working<br />

Group with the aim of increasing the number of<br />

scientifically relevant multi-centre clinical studies,<br />

and industry sponsored clinical trials in particular.<br />

Members of the Working Group who include leading<br />

clinical researchers held its first meeting on 13<br />

August under the chairmanship of Professor Larry<br />

Egan, ICRIN Clinical Director. See list of members<br />

in table below.<br />

The Working Group is addressing the following<br />

work streams:<br />

Streamlining trial approval and start-up systems<br />

- ethics, institutional, contractual, financial and<br />

improved feasibility<br />

CRC sustainability and research infrastructure<br />

assessment and proposals<br />

Process and systems harmonisation, with a<br />

focus on IT and data management, bio banking<br />

and quality management systems<br />

Training, education and resource assessment<br />

of research community – with an initial focus on<br />

research nurses<br />

Piloting multicentre clinical trials - industry and<br />

investigator-led<br />

Identification and focusing on research<br />

strengths<br />

In order to progress the theme of process<br />

harmonisation, a quality management subgroup<br />

was also instituted drawing membership from all<br />

the CRCs, MIRA, Perinatal <strong>Ireland</strong>, the National<br />

Stoke and Cardiovascular research network,<br />

National Children’s Research Centre and the UCC<br />

neonatal group.<br />
