Early one June morning this cover picture was
taken showing the Club‚ beauty and Mother Nature
working diligently together. The moon is
overlooking the beautiful golf course and fog is
adding much needed moisture to its soil. We
appreciate every drop of moisture here in West
Texas. Foggy mornings, timely rains and the hard
work of our golf course maintenance staff have both
golf courses in great condition for the summer.
The Clubhouse is busy with our Junior
Members and kids activities throughout the
summer. Camp OCC will return in July for all
elementary age children. Sign up is available each
week. Junior Golf development continues each
Thursday in July. The talent of our junior players
is unbelievable.
Chillin’ and Grilling on the Patio‚ continues to
be a big hit. Each Saturday night you are invited to
relax and enjoy the wonderful evening of gourmet
grilling on the patio.
The highlight of the month will be our July 4
celebration. Live music, fireworks (weather
permitting) and a free buffet is planned. Kids’
activities at the pool and a horseshoe contest will be
fun for all ages. Call the office to make your
reservations.
The summer continues to be a very busy time of
year for us at the club. If there is anything we can
do to improve your overall experience here at the
Club please let me know.

From the President
This time of the year, as we begin a new OCC
Board of Directors year, we also begin a new year
for the Odessa Country Club Committees. The OCC
Committees are a great resource for the Odessa
Country Club Board of Directors. Our Board of
Directors will serve as either chairman or cochairman
of one of the committees. The
Committees are made up of eight or ten club
members. These Committees bring
recommendations to the Board from their
committee meetings. Many times that
recommendation has actually begun as a
recommendation or suggestions from one of you.
Because of the importance of member input, I
wanted this month to let you know the Chairmen of
each of our committees for your convenience in
passing on to their committee your ideas and
suggestions for Odessa Country Club.

Golf News
From the Fairway
Our annual Quarter Century Golf Tournament is behind
us now and it was a huge success. Thank you to all of you who
participated and to all of those that helped make this event one
of the best in recent history.
July is a great month to play some golf here at OCC. We
have a great day planned for you on July 4th with many
activities. We will be having a “Place Your Flag Sweepstakes”
event planned for you at both courses. This involves placing
your flag wherever your handicap runs out on the golf course. It
is a lot of fun and we hope to see you participate.
We love having our junior golfers out on the practice
facilities and golf courses. We have Camp OCC going on as well
as Junior Development every Thursday morning from 9-11.
This is a great opportunity to get your kids out on the golf
course with our Golf Professionals and learn how to play the
game.
We also have our 4-Man invitational coming up August 20-
22. It is never too early to start finding your team for this
event. It is one of our best and most fun so start rounding up
your partners now because this event fills up early.
The golf courses are in great shape and we hope to see you
out here soon. As always, if there is anything any of us can do
for you, please let us know.

We are in full swing at your OCC Golf Shop! We are
stocking our floor and racks with all of the latest from the
leading manufacturers in the industry.
It is hot outside and it looks like it is going to get
hotter as the season goes on. We have brought in many
items to keep you cool this summer. We have many
performance shirts in men’s and women’s designed to let
air in and keep sun out from many brands such as Under
Armour, EP Pro, Adidas, Fairway & Greene, and even
shirts from House of Carrington made with Lyocell and is
cool to the touch!

OCC Women’s Association
It was “A Grand Old Flag” Luncheon for June. The
tables were each accented with glass vases filled with flags,
completed with patriotic candy scattered around the table.
Everything looked beautiful and the lunch was very good.
Thank you ladies. The Hostesses were Chairman Sue
Wikelski, Evelyn Lafrentz, Starling Edwards, Charlotte
Harris and Ann Tilley.
President Any Jo Marshall called the meeting to order
and the minutes of the last meeting were read by Vice
President J’Nevelyn Melton. The minutes were approved
as read.
The winners of the gift certificates were Pauline Gage
and Jeanne Ellen Keith. The Sunday Lunch Buffet was
won by Beverly Martin.
The meeting was adjourned for bridge and games. The
bridge winners were: High J’Nevelyn Melton. Second High
Nita Martel and other winner Sharon Jeremenko. Other
winners were Jo Ann Grape, Starling Edwards and Doris
Edmondson.

Tennis News
From The Courts
July is a big month for tennis with many popular events
on the calendar. Remember, to register for events, simply
stop by or call us at 272-4520.
We start off the month with The Breakfast at
Wimbledon on July 4th at 9:00 am. Everyone who attends
needs to wear all white clothing to support the Wimbledon
theme. We will be serving strawberries and cream with
scones and ice tea for your enjoyment.
On July 31st, we will have our 6th Annual Margarita
Mixer. This will be a great deal of fun and great time to
visit with your fellow members. Guests are also welcome.
Remember members we have put together our summer
programs just for you, and for your entire family to enjoy.

Don’t forget to sign up for Miss Jane’s Tennis and Swim
Camps. Campers receive two hours of tennis followed by lunch
and swim at the pool. Date for camps will be July 7th – 10th,
July 14trh – 17th, July 21st – 24th, and July 28th – 31st. Camp
starts at 9:090 am to 1:00 pm. Cost is $140.00 per camp.

Women’s Golf Association
Summer hit us with a vengeance in June. We met the
challenge though, as we had a full month of golfing events.
First was our Flutterbye Tournament which had a full field and
was enjoyed by all. Thanks to all the participants, staff
members for the delicious food, pro shop for all their help,
volunteers helping in locker room; and our Tournament
Chairpersons Sandra Hill and Cheryl Trotter for a job well done
and the beautiful tee gifts (pens). You can view the results at

Several of our ladies participated in the Women’s West
Texas at Lakeridge CC, Lubbock, TX June 7-12. We had two
winners; Mary Jane Duffy, Fifth Flight Winner and Katie
Pease, Sixth Flight Winner. Congratulations, ladies!
Permian Basin Playday was held at OCC-Old Course, June
16th. Ladies from OCC winning were: Championship Flight,
Cheryl Trotter, Low Net-68; First Flight, Mary Jane Duffy, Low
Net-64 and Second Flight, Tammy Lawrence, Low Gross-93,
Sharon Brown, Low Net-65 and Jean Stinson, Low Putts-27.
Congratulations, ladies!
We had our return Challenge Match with Bentwood CC in
San Angelo, May 28th , with very good participation from both
clubs; and, a wonderful time had by all. Unfortunately, our
OCC ladies lost the match to the Bentwood CC ladies. We will
hopefully get a chance to redeem ourselves next year!
Our Interclub Match Play tournament is ongoing, and
continued to be played. Check the locker room for results.
Ladies, be sure to check the locker room bulletin board for
play days and upcoming tournaments; and, any changes made
to the schedule.

Just A Reminder
Children under the age of sixteen and/or without a valid drivers
license may not operate golf carts (either privately owned authorized
golf carts or OCC golf carts) on Odessa Country Club property.
No more than two golfers and two golf bags are permitted on
a golf cart at one time.
And just a reminder to our private cart owners coming from
your home in Mission, the law states that you can travel on the
roadway until you reach the first entry point to the golf course
and continue on the cart path until you reach the Odessa Country
Club clubhouse.

From the Pool
We are happy to see so many of you out enjoying the
pool. We have had a wonderful time serving you and
getting to know you and your children. Our kitchen staff
is enjoying serving you and helping to keep you and your
children hydrated and happy. Don’t forget to ask for a
rainbow push pop next time you are at the pool.
To ensure you are taking full advantage of the pool I
would like to remind you of our hours. Tuesday –
Saturday we open at 11 am and on Sunday at 12 pm.
Wednesday – Sunday we are open until 7 pm
Tuesdays feature our ever popular Family Night at
the pool from 6 to 9 pm. We have had a great crowd, but
we have room for you! Family Night offers a buffet of
hamburgers, hot dogs and grilled chicken breast and
swimming until 9.
You still have of time to sign your children up for
swim lessons! We will have swim lessons available
throughout the summer. If you are interested, please
give us a call at the Club so we can give you more
information.
We look forward to you joining us July 4th at the
pool to celebrate the day and stay cool at the same time!
We will host our traditional OCC Olympics that are sure
to be fun for kids and adults alike.

Around The Club
On the Greener Side
Can you believe the year is half over If you are procrastinating
playing golf you better stop and come to play. Both of the courses
are playing really well. Either course is a true test of skills and
both are a lot of fun to play. We have everything manicured out
for you. Greens are consistent and rolling good. Fairways are lush
just waiting on your ball. For the rest of you the rough is mowed
out and the trees are trimmed. For those of you who play outside
the white stakes our practice facility is set up and waiting on you.
Whatever the stage of your game we have the facility for you to
have a lot of fun. Your grounds staff is doing everything possible
to make your game better. We have a couple of hot months left so
you might as well get outdoors and enjoy your club. Remember
the more you play the better you get.

Midland Country Club has asked us to pass on to you the following
changes to their reciprocation policy with other country clubs:
1. All requests for reciprocation must be submitted in writing to
Midland Country Club by the reciprocating club to the General
Manager or Golf Professional.
2. All reciprocation is good for one day or event only and
therefore weekly, monthly or annual events must be requested
and approved each time.
3. Midland Country Club normally does not reciprocate with
clubs in Midland or Odessa. There may be reciprocation for
special occasions.
4. A 10% Reciprocation Service Fee will be added to each ticket by
Midland Country Club.
