President
December is that mystical month
when all the world seems to be
magical. Odessa Country Club
will be engulfed in the holiday
spirit, beautiful scenery, Christmas
decorations, and even a visit from
Ole Saint Nick. Seeing the club with
all the glitter and the sounds of the
season reminds me of how proud I
am to belong to OCC.
In December we also think about
people we want to thank, and I immediately thought about
each of you that made the effort and took your time to
complete the recent survey of the OCC membership. We
appreciate both the members and spouses for their input. We
have received your responses back from the McMahon Group,
a professional consulting firm who conducted the survey for
us. We were very pleased with the McMahon Group and
their professional work. This survey provides a valuable line
of direction for the growth of OCC.
During the November Board of Directors meeting we had
the opportunity to review the summary from the McMahon
Group. Over the next few months we will be using your
information to formulate plans for the future of the Club
facilities, programs and services that you desire.
We are in the process of getting a summary letter sent to
each member. In the meantime, we will have a complete
survey report available for you to review in the Club office
soon.
We do appreciate your part in making this survey a success.
We thank each of you that took part in the Focus Groups,
your input was a key for the McMahon Group to develop a
survey for Odessa Country Club. On behalf of each of the
Board of Directors, I want to wish you a Merry Christmas and
the best of years in 2012.

Not long ago, decorating
for the holidays seemed so far
away. The lack of cold weather
allowed time to pass seamlessly.
Even though December tiptoed
in, the Clubhouse decorations
are complete and ready for your
enjoyment.
The holiday season will
begin with Santa Sleigh Day
on December 3rd. This Little

Gushers event will be loaded with fun for all ages. Santa is
scheduled to arrive at noon and leave at 3:00pm. We will have
a train ride to the North Pole to visit Mrs. Claus. Pictures
with Santa, reindeer games, stockings for all kids and lunch
will all be included. The traditional pictures ornaments will
be available at the picture station. The month of December
and 2011 will conclude with a fabulous dinner from Chef
Mike. This elegant evening will feature a gourmet dinner,
beautiful atmosphere and many of your friends. Make your
reservations today. Seating is limited.
Odessa Country Club has a great membership and it is a
pleasure to come to work every day and have the opportunity
to be a part of such a great organization. On behalf of the

Golf Shop News From the Fairway
Fall, and now Winter has
arrived quickly with the shorter
days and cooler temperatures.
That means tee times are at a
premium on those nice days on the
weekend so make sure to call Wednesday
and Thursday at 8 am for those weekend times.
The Golf Shop is a great place to find those important
Christmas gifts for the golfers and non-golfers alike in your
life. We have some great sportswear from Bugatchi Uomo as
well as Bobby Jones, Travis Mathew and Polo. There is also
some amazing cold weather gear from Zero Restriction and
Mizuno for those braving the winter temperatures on the
golf course.
The end of the year and your last chance to spend
Tournament Credit is quickly approaching as well. The
Christmas Party Thursday, December 1st is a great time to
use that Tournament Credit.
As always, the golf staff is more than happy to assist you in
any way we can.

Country Club although it hasn’t
always been easy with the stifling heat
and drought conditions. I would
like to thank Greg and the entire
maintenance crew for their hard work
this year in keeping the golf courses in
such great condition despite the harsh
conditions. I would also like to thank
the professional staff for all of the hard
work they have put in this year as well.

With the Christmas season upon us, I would like to invite
everyone out to our annual Christmas sale on Thursday the
1st from 6-9 PM. We have some great gift ideas for both the
golfer and non-golfer in your family.
It has been a pleasure for your staff to serve everyone this
year and look forward to an even better 2012. Also, don’t
forget about the annual Snow Scramble near the end of
January. We will have a sign up board in the pro shop so start
thinking about who you want on your team.
I would also like to take this moment to speak quickly
about one issue. There have been a lot of cigarette butts
noticed around the club and courses and I please ask that
for the enjoyment and courtesy of all your fellow members
and guests that you dispose of them in the trash cans around
the course and clubhouse and not toss them on the ground.
Thank you for your cooperation.
I would like to thank the entire membership for their
support and participation in the golf program this past year.
As always, if you need anything at all the professional staff
and I are here to help you in any way we can and we look
forward to serving your golf needs.

We have had an amazing run of just fabulous play from some of
our members. Make sure to congratulate them when you see them:
Dan Desilets had an amazing month recently. He made two
Holes in One in less than 3 weeks. The first came in Andrews
on #5 and the second at Teton Reserve when he holed out on
the Par 3 13th.
Jim Stuart also had a Hole in One on #17 of the Old Course.
Ronnie Flowers holed out from the fairway on #18 for a great
eagle as well.
Make sure to congratulate the three when you see them next.

OCC Ladies Golf Association
Golfing in the fall is fantastic. Beautiful days of cooler weather, slight West Texas breezes and lots of sunshine. This past couple
of month’s have kind of slowed down for us as far as tournaments. We did, however, enjoy the “Flying Pumpkin” in October;
along with the Senior Women’s West Texas. November was much quieter except for some relaxing play days. Remember, we
will not have play days in December. Regular play days will resume again in March, 2012, but business as usual will begin in
January 2012.
December has arrived and by the time you are reading this article, we will have enjoyed our yearly “Christmas Party”. We
hope you will have enjoyed some lovely holidays and will be making plans to resume golf as usual.

OCC Women’s Association
The November Ladies luncheon on November 11th
was fabulous with a program presented by Dillards
on Holiday decorating. We would like to thank
Wylma Madden, Chairman, Doris McElmurray,
Dorothy Hall, Jan Roden and Patti Husband for the

our traditional Thanksgiving feast. We all enjoyed the
great friends and food as we welcome the holidays.
Sandra Crain, Midland Dillards store manager, Debbie Mannering and Molly Wright
presented some great ideas for decorating our tables for the holidays with a mixture of
textures and textiles. They suggested using pieces you already have while sprinkling in
some new items to change things up. They suggested layering table cloths with things
like tree skirts and sequin place mats and table runners. It was all very beautiful and
creative. It seems that the beautiful table settings were reflective of current fashion
trends. Lots of bling, combining
things that you might not think of
and unique centerpieces. I will let the
pictures speak for themselves.
We had a short business meeting
with Evelyn Lafrentz, President, calling
Sandra Crain-Midland Dillards Manager,
the meeting to order. Evelyn thanked
Debbie Mannering and Molly Wright
the hostesses and Sue Wikelski for
arranging such a unique program. Linda Felts read the minutes from the last
meeting and they were approved as read. Dorothy Hall read the Treasurer’s
report. There was no old business. Evelyn thanked everyone for bringing guests
both from our club membership as well as new friends. Marilyn Morris brought
her granddaughter, Amanda Dusatko and Susan Zellars brought Lori Baze and
Vicki Stewart. Remember to bring lot of guests for next months
luncheon with our Christmas program at 11:30 on December
9th. We will also present the new slate of officers at the meeting.
Winners of the gift certificates were Sharon Brown and Betty
Dale. Charlotte Harris was the lucky winner of the Sunday
buffets. Dillards also brought a fragrance basket that was won
by Caroline Howard. The meeting was adjourned for games
and the winners were: High Brenda Leonard, 2nd High Wylma
Madden. Other Winners: Marie Elliott, Lois Troutman, Beverly
Martin.

Cool Mint
Oreo Cookie Balls
Christmas is fast approaching and with it family gettogethers
and school Christmas parties.
Cookie pops are an easy, no-bake treat that kids can
help their parents prepare. The pops can be made using a
variety of cookies and candy coatings and decorated with
sprinkles, crushed candy or frosting. Let the kids use their
imagination to create a treat they’re proud to share with
family and classmates. Here is the recipes for Cool Mint
Oreo Cookie Balls. Enjoy and Merry Christmas!
Ingredients
6 oz. Cream Cheese
1 pkg. Oreo cool mint cookies, finely crushed
2-6 square pkgs. Of white chocolate, melted
6 drops green food coloring
2 Tbsp. chocolate sprinkles
Directions
Mix cream cheese and cookie crumbs until well blended.
Shape into 40 -1 inch balls; place on waxed paper-covered
baking sheet. Freeze 10 minutes. Mix melted chocolate and
food coloring until well blended. Dip balls in chocolate,
return to baking sheet. Top with sprinkles
Refrigerate 1 hour or until firm. Keep refrigerated.

Our 2011 Rally for the Cure event was an overwhelming

success. A special “thank you” to our OCC Rally Committee

your talent and organizational skills.
Thank you to each of you that supported the Rally by your
presence and participation in the day’s events. You made the
day fun.
A special highlight this year was our guest Cliff Richey. It
was our honor and privilege to have a #1 Ranked US Tennis
Professional who was a two time Davis Cup winner, a man
that has won 45 tour events and in 1983 won the Senior Tour
Championship. You may remember him as the original “Bad
Boy” of tennis. Today he devotes much of his time to sharing
the truth about depression. He is the author of a recently
published book, “Acing Depression, A Tennis Champion’s
Toughest Match.” Cliff spoke openly with his struggles with
depression and is passionate about his desire that everyone
know the truth about depression.
This wonderful event would not have been possible without

Golf Course News
Our winter projects on golf courses are well underway and the forecasted drier and warmer
winter weather should assist us in achieving our goals. Winter projects will focus on: #9/10
Shoreline Renovation Projects at the Links Course, our Tee Renovation Program at the Old
Course, renovating the approach to the chipping green nearest the pro shop, and many important
and vital irrigation projects. If the above projects go as planned, we should be able to also focus

on several drainage projects, like in front of #15 and #18 greens at the Old Course. Winter
projects are the backbone of making improvements to the golf courses and the maintenance is
very exciting about this year’s projects.
This month we will also focus on fine tuning next year’s operating budgets and our priorities will be on a continued and
successful soil and water amendments, and aerification programs. With a forecasted continued drought into next year, we
have to get our water and soils working at their best. The current drought has left us with high concentrations of salt on
our water and soils. We combat these problems with water and
soil amendments along with good drainage through aerification
and sand topdressing. Our practice tees, short range practice
area and #18 approach area are in desperate need of some major

MERRY CHRISTMAS from the tennis staff. I hope everyone is enjoying their holidays, 2011 was
another great year for our tennis program. The staff is looking forward to serving you in 2012.
We will finish our tennis season with a couple of great events. December 9th will be our Jr Christmas
Tennis Party, all the kids will enjoy some tennis games, food, movies, and take home a gift from our
gift exchange! Then on Sunday the 11th, our Adult Christmas Mixer with gift exchange will take
place. It will be a blast, we will play some tennis, enjoy some great food, and participate in the gift
exchange. I hope to see everyone at our Christmas Mixer!
