HOST LOCALS<br />

At the opening session of the<br />

Board meeting, representatives of<br />

Host <strong>Local</strong>s 118, 168, 669, and 891<br />

appeared to officially welcome members<br />

of the General Executive Board,<br />

Official Family, local union representatives<br />

and guests to the City of<br />

Vancouver. Meeting attendees were<br />

advised that the Host <strong>Local</strong>s had<br />

arranged for a tour of the facilities<br />

at Capilano University and the Performing<br />

Arts Lodge. In addition, all<br />

attendees were invited to attend the<br />

50th Anniversary celebration of <strong>Local</strong><br />

891 to be held at the CBC Studio One<br />

on Thursday evening of the Board<br />

meeting week. It was noted that the<br />

celebration would also be a fundraiser<br />

for the Actors Fund of America<br />

and the Actors Fund of Canada.<br />

In addition, a Coast Salish traditional<br />

opening was arranged by the<br />

Host <strong>Local</strong>s to offer a ceremonial<br />

opening for this Board meeting. Mr.<br />

Victor Guerin of the Musqueum Nation<br />

performed the ceremony and<br />

stated that he is “grateful for the work<br />

Officers of the Host <strong>Local</strong>s welcomed the General Executive Board<br />

and all the attendees to the City of Vancouver.<br />

we do.” Mr. Guerin then presented a<br />

traditional talking stick to President<br />

Loeb. The beautiful talking stick was<br />

hand-carved by Mr. Jack Stogan.<br />

On behalf of the entire Board,<br />

President Loeb expressed his deep<br />

appreciation to the Host <strong>Local</strong>s for<br />

all their hospitality and for the hard<br />

work they put forth to ensure that<br />

this Board meeting would be a memorable<br />

one and one of great success.<br />

He noted that the City of Vancouver<br />

is rich with labour history and<br />

the labour community has met with<br />

tremendous strife and has enjoyed<br />

tremendous success over the years.<br />

President Loeb also congratulated<br />

the officers and members of <strong>Local</strong><br />

891 on the <strong>Local</strong>’s 50th anniversary.<br />

He noted that the last Board meeting<br />

held in Vancouver was in 2002, and<br />

looked forward to a very successful<br />

meeting.<br />

INTERNATIONAL VICE PRESI-<br />

DENT TIMOTHY F. MAGEE<br />

At the onset of the meeting, President<br />

Loeb noted the passing of Vice<br />

President Magee on July 6, 2012 in<br />

Mr. Victor Guerin of the Musqueum Nation<br />

performed a ceremonial opening of<br />

the Vancouver General Executive Board<br />

meeting.<br />
