We joyously celebrated the Paryushan Parva. We were
fortunate to have Harshadbhai Nandlal Sanghrajka
during Paryushan to share his knowledge on Jainism.
Kalpa Sutra was read by Harshadbhai in the morning,
and in the evening he conducted Pratikraman in
English and also held questions and answers sessions
where he took up a number of questions which
members had on Jainism.
Sanatra Pooja was held every morning,
commencing at 9.30 -10.00 am and
finishing at approximately 12.00 pm.
Hence the reading of the Kalpa
Sutra started late. Every evening
the Pratikraman in Gujarati was
held in the main hall and English
Pratikraman in the upper
assembly hall on four days during
Paryushan. The attendance for
Pratikraman in the main hall was
from 130 to 180 daily except for
weekends when it reached 200 and
on the last day the attendance
exceeded 350 people. English Pratikraman
averaged 35. Daily Prabhavna was given by the
Association, to all doing Pratikraman, and also
Prabhavna of penda on Mahavir Janma Vachan day
and coconut prabhavna on last day to all members
present in the hall in the evening.
In the evening after Pratikraman we started the
programme by reciting Navkar Mantra and Bhavna
geet. Children performed Bhavna geet with music on
the first two days followed by religious play on the third
and forth day. This was very well received by
members.
Everyone present in the hall after Pratikraman had the
opportunity to do Samuh Arti and Mangal Divo on two
of the days during Paryushan and bidding was done for
Arti and Mangal Divo on other days. Also bidding for 14
Swapnas and Paina was done on Friday, Mahavir
Janma Vachan.
We had three Tapasvis who did Varshee Tap and 14
Tapasvis who had fasted for 8 or more days. There
names were published in the last issue of Oshwal
News. Our heartiest congratulations and blessings to
all Tapasvis. Tapasvis Bahuman was done by draw of
ten names from the attendance in the hall.
Approximately 600 people attended the
hall on the last day of Paryushan.
Dhajadin and Savantsari
Swamivatslya Bhojan took place
on Sunday 17 th September 2006.
The day started very early with
preparation of food. Sanatra
Pooja at 8.30am followed by
Sataar Bhadi Pooja. Dhaja
procession (varghodo) with dhol
and dancers took place from the
Main Hall to Derasar and was very
exciting and enjoyable. The families of
Shree Premchand Fulchand Shah,
Mahendra Premchand Shah and Sandeep
Premchand Shah hoisted the Dhaja. Jain Samaj
Europe Sangh of 130 people from Leicester attended
this event. They thoroughly enjoyed it
We thank each and every person for their help,
donations and participation on these auspicious
occasions. South Area Committee also takes this
opportunity to ask for your forgiveness if we have
knowingly or unknowingly hurt anyone’s feelings
through words, thought or actions.
