11 The Ruth Patrick Science Education Center is a cooperative effort between USC Aiken, businesses, and schools in the Central Savannah River Area. The purpose of the Center is to infuse a love for learning science, mathematics, and technology with a hands-on approach to teaching. Since its opening in 1986, over 850,000 people have taken part in RPSEC programs. The DuPont Planetarium, located in the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center, offers planetarium shows to local school groups and the general public. Over 91,000 people have visited the Planetarium for a show. USCA’s Office of Conferences and Continuing Education offers complete conference services and facilities to meet the needs of large or small groups, professional development courses and custom-design training programs that address your organization’s specific needs and interests. Continuing education opportunities are also available in areas of personal interest. Partnerships “Since its founding in 1961, USC Aiken has thrived on partnerships with the community. Partnerships are the cornerstone of all that we do at USC Aiken.” – Chancellor Tom Hallman The Wellness Center offers the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, a joint venture with Aiken Regional Medical Centers’ Heart Center, that is state-certified and focuses on education and exercise. There is also a Seniors Exercise Program for those 60 and over, which is supervised by trained professionals. The USCA Convocation Center is the University’s newest facility. It is the largest gathering place for Aiken County, accommodating the University’s graduation ceremonies and other major events as well as community concerts, family shows, and performances. It is also the home of Pacer Athletics and provides state-of-the-art game, practice, and training facilities to Pacer student-athletes. SeniorNet and the Academy for Lifelong Learning meet on the USC Aiken campus. The Academy offers monthly programs, short courses, special events, and trips for mature adults who seek fellowship and entertainment within an academic environment. SeniorNet is a computer training program open to individuals of at least 50 years of age. SeniorNet classes are taught by fellow members to encourage a comfortable environment, regardless of skills.
