Family Fund<br />
T<br />
he Family Fund is the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>South</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong><br />
system-wide solicitation <strong>of</strong> all faculty and staff. <strong>The</strong><br />
funds raised are both restricted and unrestricted and<br />
support a variety <strong>of</strong> programs.<br />
With 84% <strong>of</strong> our faculty and staff participating in 2007-2008, our<br />
campus is again on target to have one <strong>of</strong> the highest participation<br />
rates among any <strong>of</strong> the USC campuses with more than $64,000<br />
raised. USC <strong>Aiken</strong>’s Family Fund involvement is a powerful message<br />
to alumni and friends regarding the commitment the <strong>University</strong>’s<br />
employees have to the institution.<br />

Campus Highlights<br />
USC <strong>Aiken</strong> enrolls over 3,100 students. Our students come from 45 <strong>of</strong> the 46 counties in <strong>South</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong>, 28 states, and 22 foreign countries. Over 20% <strong>of</strong><br />
students reside on campus. Our faculty to student ratio is 16:1 with the average class size <strong>of</strong> 17. <strong>The</strong> entering freshman class <strong>of</strong> 2007 included 617 students.<br />
Almost half <strong>of</strong> our freshmen reside on campus. In 2006-2007, USCA awarded 421 bachelor’s degrees and 16 master’s degrees.<br />
USC <strong>Aiken</strong> is ranked second among the top public baccalaureate colleges in the <strong>South</strong> in the year 2008 edition <strong>of</strong> U.S.News & World Report’s guide,<br />
“America’s Best Colleges.” This is the 10 th consecutive year USC <strong>Aiken</strong> has been ranked in the top three public baccalaureate colleges in the <strong>South</strong> category.<br />
USC <strong>Aiken</strong> has been ranked first four times: 2002, 2003, 2006, and 2007.<br />
Dr. Val Lumans, pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> history and chair <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> History, Philosophy, and Political Science, was honored with a <strong>Carolina</strong> Trustee<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship Award in 2006-2007. Dr. Lumans is the fourth USCA faculty member in the last six years to receive the award for faculty at USC non-<br />
Columbia campuses.<br />
Four USCA students were named Magellan Scholars for Spring through Fall terms <strong>of</strong> 2007. <strong>The</strong>se students and their selected faculty mentors receive<br />
scholarship funding for research projects in their areas <strong>of</strong> study.
