RabCROATIA
1
Dear Reader,
We hope, in leafing through this
brochure, that you will also want to visit
Rab, this island which, surrounded by
an emerald sea, lies almost at the heart
of Europe. Beautiful beaches, pleasant
walks, superb cuisine and kind hosts are
the sure guarantee that you will enjoy a
pleasant, relaxing and fun holiday.
FELIX ARBA
120 years of tourism
“For days they played host to me on
Rab, with their kindness, openness
wonderful food from the island’s fields,
fish and crabs from the surrounding sea
and strong and full-bodied wine from
their vineyards, and I remained on this
island much longer than my affairs had
required.” So writes Croatian Renaissance
poet, Juraj Baraković of Zadar, in the
prologue of his book about the Rab
shepherdess Draga. This took place at
the turn of the 16th century, but has
remained true to this day. The sea is just
as bountiful, the fields and vineyards just
as fertile, but first and foremost, there are the people of Rab, who take sincere
delight in every guest and receive him as they would a dear friend.
In 1889, Rab’s municipal council declared Rab a tourist destination and health
resort. This was a logical union of the island’s natural riches, mild climate and
welcoming hosts. Not long after this decision by the council, construction began
on the first boarding-houses and hotels, and boats carrying tourists began to
arrive in Rab Harbour. Thus the prediction of Austrian naturalist Camillo Morgan
came to pass. It was he who, admiring the bays of Rab and the colour of the
sea, which “in places becomes a veritable emerald”, foresaw a place for dazzling,
opulent Rab “among the most brilliant pearls in the Illyrian crown”.
Rab has, since time immemorial, offered even more to tourists than just emeraldgreen
sea, fish, crabs and red wine on the table in a friendly and homely
surrounding. Rab is an island of culture, and has been from Antique times to the
present day. With its beautiful scenery and long, pleasant walks, Rab is an island
which fills the visitor with a kind of quiet, secret happiness. The happy town of
Rab - Felix Arba, the Romans called it, and if anyone knew how to enjoy life
and how to name a town it was they.
Rab does not captivate with glitter, neon lights and grandeur. Rab
seduces, gently whispers its legends to us, sets before us the
contrasts of the sharp stone cliffs on its eastern shore and its gentle,
sandy beaches, its bare hilly massifs and the riches of the woods
of Kalifront. Softly and without great pomp, it reveals its beauties
to us, as though removing from them veil after veil of alienation, hurry,
forgetfulness and stress.
And so it has been for millennia, right up to the present day.
In view of all this, is it not quite natural that Rab constantly receives new tourism
awards, affirming it again and again as one of the best tourist destinations in the
Adriatic The Croatian National Tourist Board awarded Rab the Plavi cvijet - the
Blue Flower - as the highest quality tourist destination. St. Christopher’s Square
was declared, not so long ago, the most beautiful square, and the “rapska torta”,
an exceptionally tasty cake which has been made on Rab for 800 years, was
pronounced the most original souvenir.
The European Association for Flowers and Landscape, supported by the
European Union, awarded Rab the Silver Flower of Europe award, for its welltended
parks and woodlands.
Welcome!
Your hosts, Rab Tourist Board.
HISTORY AND ARCHITECTURE
The silhouette of four bell towers, on the high rocky outcropping of the peninsula, is a familiar
image of Rab - an image that has been linked to it for centuries. Apart from minor changes,
the silhouette has now stood fast for two millennia on the outcropping between the Bay of
St Euphemia (Zaljev Sv. Eufemije) and a small bay which does not have a name since it has
become the town harbour.
The town of Rab.
The town was originally raised by the Illyrian Liburni tribe, initially as a hill-fort surrounded by
a dry stone wall, The settlement, which was completely surrounded by thick black Holm oak
and Maritime Pine woods, was named Arbe (‘dark’ in the Illyrian language).
From that day to this, the town of Rab has stood as a jewel in the crown of the island, but
also as a centre from which culture, art and education have spread. The numerous churches,
not only in the town itself but all over the island, testify not only to the religious tradition,
but also to civilisational, cultural, artistic and architectural achievement. The monasteries,
churches, palaces, secular buildings, squares, loggias - secular meeting points - courthouses
and marketplaces of Rab bear witness to a highly developed social environment. It should not
surprise us then that Rab brought forth Marc Antun de Dominis, one of the greatest minds of
16th-century Europe - a theologian, physicist, preacher and church reformer.
4
5
When the Romans came to Rab in the second century before Christ, they encountered a welldeveloped
town. The greatest Roman emperor, Augustus Octavian, had walls and towers
built around the town to make it easier to defend. Even today, the remains of Rab’s walls and
fortifications stand on their foundations. The Romans named the town “happy” - Felix Arba.
This title was used to signify the prosperity, merits and significance of a municipium to Rome.
From the distant Roman rulers, through the rule of Byzantium, Venice and the Hungarian
and Croatian kings, Rab frequently changed its rulers, but the town never suffered any major
destruction. Perhaps the Roman epithet Felix Arba had something to do with that too.
The subtlety of Rab’s path through history is also reflected in its buildings and the simple
distribution of its streets, which are dominated by three parallel, longitudinal streets.
The oldest part of the town, Kaldanac, is very close to the cathedral, with its characteristic
façade built of the two-coloured Rab stone known as breča. In the Cathedral of the
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Katedrala Uznesenja Blažene Djevice Marije), among
the numerous relics kept, is the head of St. Christopher, the patron saint of Rab. According
to legend, it was thanks to St. Christopher that Rab managed to repel the Norman invasion
in 1075. Thanks to his intercession the Norman arrows, fired from ships around the fortified
town, could not harm the town’s towers and walls. To this very day, on the anniversary of the
saint’s martyrdom, which the Church calls Dies Natalis, on 27th July, Rab’s most important
relic is borne out before believers and carried in procession.
Alongside the cathedral is the main Rab bell tower - an extravagant, 26 metre high Romanic
structure.
The old centre of town also contains the monastery of St. Anthony the Abbot (Samostan Sv.
Antuna Opata). Today the monastery is the home of nuns who are known specially for their
handicrafts, among which of special significance are the lace tablecloths made of thread
obtained from the Agave plant.
The oldest Rab bell tower stands alongside the Benedictine monastery of St. Andrew
(Samostan Sv. Andrije).
The church of St. Justine (Crkva Sv. Justine), built by the citizens of Rab themselves, today
houses a religious museum.
The Church of the Holy Cross (Crkva Sv. Križa), dating from the 13th century, is also known for
the famous Rab Musical Evenings, held there in summertime for more than 20 years, and was
built on the site of the intriguing remains of the church of St. John the Evangelist (Crkva Sv.
Ivana Evangelista).
The Romanic bell tower is the only fully preserved part of that church remaining today, and
the restored columns that form a deambulatory around the altar serve as an open-air stage
for cultural events.
The architectural wealth that the churches lend the old centre of Rab is further reinforced by
the numerous noblemen’s, merchants’ and later civil palaces.
The most striking Renaissance palace is the Dominis Nimira, built in the 15th century.
Together with its opulent Renaissance windows, the façade of the palace is adorned with the
coat-of-arms of the Dominis family, which produced the celebrated Marc Antun de Dominis.
The Knežev dvor (Prince’s Court) palace is dominated by a Gothic Renaissance tower and a
balcony with a Renaissance style balustrade. For a full eight centuries it has served the same
purpose, as a centre of municipal government, a valuable rarity even in Europe.
During its rule over Rab, the Serenissima (Venice) also built an impressive town loggia in
1509, as an open forum in which court proceedings were held, marriages were formalised,
trade was conducted and decisions were taken. Even today, the town loggia performs some
of these functions in the public life of Rab. At the same time as the loggia, the town clock was
built, whose mechanism still shows the correct time to the people of Rab and their guests.
Of special interest is the oldest preserved church on the island, the church of St. Peter (Sv.
Petra) in Supetarska Draga, built in 1059. This church is the best preserved Romanic structure
on the east coast of the Adriatic, and its bell tower still houses a bell cast in 1299!
The monastery of St. Euphemia (Samostan Sv. Eufemije), built by the Franciscans in the bay
of the same name, is a true jewel. In the monastery’s Charter, we find the first mention of the
Croatian name of the town, Rab. The monastery is a real treasure trove of artistic riches, and
it is the home of the island’s ethnological museum. On a hill above Barbat lie the ruins of the
church of St. Damian (Crkva Sv. Damjana) which apart from its religious function also served
a defensive purpose for the fortress. It is also thought that this is the location of a Byzantine
fortress from the sixth century (the time of Emperor Justinian).
The Romans named
the town “happy” - Felix
Arba.
THE TOWN OF RAB
Among the series of beautiful sights that Rab offers us, the town of Rab itself stands out. There
is always something going on on the wide and spacious riva (waterfront), where passenger,
pleasure and fishing boats are moored. It is the town’s main promenade, a place of meetings
and journeys. The riva signifies a space in which to move, a connection with the world. The
town’s palaces and hotels that face it speak of the wealth of Rab, of tourism as the main
economic activity.
It is but a step from the hustle and bustle of the riva, to the security of the narrow town streets.
But they are also separated by a whole philosophy of life. Between those two opposing
points, you can find a wall to lean against, or a terrace where you can refresh yourself and
meet people. And whatever you decide, Rab will maintain its unobtrusive presence, revealing
itself to you and satisfying your desires, as though it were reading your thoughts.
SQUARES AND PARKS
Town squares in the Mediterranean have since Roman times, been a stage on which public
and private life has been played out. It is a place for meetings and for rest, the central point
of the town’s hurly-burly. Decorated with multicoloured sun umbrellas and vases with their
firework displays of bright flowers, they tempt us to linger, to absorb the spirit of the town
or simply to relax. The squares of Rab have another special characteristic - their immortalised
scenes from legends.
The fountain and the oak-man next to it, on the main square, tell the legend of the
shepherdess Draga and the unfortunate Kalifront, whose lust was punished by the goddess
Diana, who turned Draga into a rock with water flowing from its base, as a symbol of her tears,
and sentenced Kalifront to plant trees for eternity, until he himself turned into a tree.
The monument on the square speaks of the Kalifront forest, while the monument in St.
Marinus’ Park tells of the founder of the city-state of San Marino, Marin the stonemason who,
fleeing Rab from Diocletian’s persecution of the Christians, got as far as Monte Titano, not far
from Rimini in Italy, founded a small city-state and was eventually canonised.
Maybe it is because of the story of Kalifront, or because its woods have earned the island
the name ‘dark’ (Arbe), but the people of Rab are passionate about greenery and forests. And
the Rab town pasture, thanks to head forester Pravdoje Belija, was in 1883 turned into the
beautiful Komrčar park, which begins at the bottom of the town harbour and runs along the
city walls, providing a beautiful shady walk.
RAB IN THE MIDDLE AGES - RABSKA FJERA
We do not need a time machine to see what Rab looked like in the Middle Ages. Several
times during the summer in Rab - 9th of May, 25th of June, 27th July and 15th August - the
Mediaeval Games are held. The tournament between the crossbowmen (balestrieri) of Rab
and San Marino will transport you in the twinkling of an eye to a time when honour was more
important than life itself.
Several times during the summer in Rab - 9th of May, 25th of June,
27th July and 15th August - the Mediaeval Games are held.
The main event is the Rapska fjera, held from 25th to 27th July, when St. Christopher’s Day is
also celebrated in honour of the patron saint of the town. For those three days, the whole of
Rab dresses up in Renaissance costume. Almost a thousand people wear Renaissance dress
and blacksmiths, carpenters, bakers, fishermen, basket-weavers, tailors and scribes come out
onto the streets and squares. Sweets and culinary specialties from mediaeval times can be
tried. As if by some magic, which enchants the river of tourists who visit the town during that
time, we return to a time gone by. It is fascinating to witness the enthusiasm both with which
the citizens of Rab engross themselves in bringing to life this living image of the past, and the
way in which the tourists enter into the spirit of the performance. The mediaeval tournament
is a logical conclusion to the Fjera, and on the last day the main relic of Rab is brought out
before believers - the head of St. Christopher, kept in a glass and silver chest.
The Rapska fjera is not just a performance for the benefit of tourists, it is a specific homage of
the islanders to their town, which has stood fast for millennia and which represents the life,
the survival and the prosperity of the whole island.
12
13
TRADITION AND FOLKLORE
Whether on the threshing floor, in the meadow by the spring or in the courtyard of the
bridegroom’s house, the tanac has been danced to the sounds of the sopile and mih. The tanac
is a traditional island dance that was danced both by peasants - powerfully and broadly - and
the nobility - gracefully and seductively.
There are folk ensembles on Rab that preserve the tradition and pass it on to the youngest
generation. In this way its uniqueness is preserved, together with its connection to its roots.
One form of traditional song has survived thanks to the klapsko (a cappella) singing that has
managed to keep step with modern life. There are no less than three male klapa ensembles
and one female on Rab. Klapa concerts and the occasional performances by folklore
ensembles are an opportunity for tourists to also get to know part of the national cultural
tradition of Rab.
CULTURE AND ENTERTAINMENT
Rab is a focal point for many top-class cultural events, especially in summer. The Rab Musical
Evenings feature top musicians both from Croatia and abroad. The churches and squares of
Rab are transformed into stages, each creating its own special atmosphere.
Besides a very wide range of musical events, from classical music, to music for young people,
to promenade concerts, Rab in the summertime is also an open air studio for numerous
painters. The town’s narrow streets are transformed into an open-air painting exhibition,
which lends the town a special colour and atmosphere.
The programme of cultural and entertainment events is designed to provide for the interests
of all of Rab’s guests.
16
17
NIGHTLIFE
Rab is interesting around the clock. Walks, the beach, bathing or a chat on a terrace during
the day. By night, a walk by the sea in the Bay of St. Euphemia, beneath the city walls or along
the riva. That is where many will remain, drawn by an event in one of the squares, or they will
meet with friends and visit one of the beautiful and spacious Rab terraces. This is also the time
when restaurants all over the island and in the town of Rab fill up. The romantically-minded
can take a boat-ride to the little Island of Love across from the town harbour.
Those wishing more energetic forms of entertainment will visit one of the clubs in town
offering modern music or on the beach, where there are beach clubs which skilfully transform
daytime leisure and bathing into night-time entertainment and fun.
18
19
CUISINE
Many a tourist town or destination would count itself lucky to enjoy such abundance as Rab.
The fertile land of Rab and the fruit it bears, and the surrounding sea, rich in excellent fish
and first-class shrimps, form the basis of Rab’s gastronomic offering, which is characterised
by healthy Mediterranean cooking. In Rab’s numerous, top-class restaurants, the freshest
fish and seafood are served, together with freshly-picked fruits of the earth, all of which are
accompanied by the experience and tradition of top chefs.
The cuisine here is so rich and so much a product of its environment that it has even
become one of the island’s souvenirs. The rapska torta, the unique-tasting cake that has
been produced on the island for 800 years, is one of the most prized souvenirs of Rab and of
Croatia. Organically-grown olives, figs, grapes and especially organic honey, are characteristic
Rab delicacies, whose tastes tempt and intoxicate.
Discovering the cuisine of Rab and learning its subtleties is a worthwhile undertaking, with
total enjoyment as its reward.
Paradise Beach
BEACHES AND SPORT
The beaches and the sea, with its emerald-blue colour, have enchanted many visitors to Rab.
This is true, whether we are talking of the stony beaches, with their proud pines in whose
shade they lie, or of the gravel beaches of Barbat and Banjol, or perhaps the sandy beaches of
Kampor and Lopar, which follow on from the kilometre and a half long sandy Paradise Beach
(Rajska plaža).
Or perhaps the visitor’s attention will be most drawn by a beach at the back of a quiet,
isolated bay, which can only be reached by boat. Naturists, believers in the culture of body
freedom, will also find a place on the island. Rab is open to all and so the beaches of Rab
offer an abundance of opportunities for fun and recreation for those looking for an active
holiday. From beach volleyball, water-skiing, surfing and canoeing to the adrenaline rush of
paragliding, a ride on the ‘Banana’ and much more besides.
Rab offers visitors 18 tennis courts, four swimming pools, a wellness centre in the Hotel
Padova, a large open-air sports centre next to the Hotel San Marino in Lopar, jet-ski rides,
aqua gymnastics and many other facilities.
24
The beaches and the sea, with its emerald-blue
colour, have enchanted many visitors to Rab…
SAILING, FISHING AND DIVING
The waters around the island of Rab contain a range of fascinating underwater sites and
phenomena. It should be no surprise then that there are no less than six diving centres on the
island, which organise professionally-supervised dives and diving schools for many different
categories. Under the sea you can admire schools of fish, shells and corals, while around the
island there are also several small shipwrecks as well as a whole protected amphora field.
On obtaining a fishing permit, the visitor to the island can enjoy the delights of fishing.
Rab is also very attractive to sailors. The bays, for daytime anchorage and leisure, the numerous
small islands around the island and the favourable winds for those visiting under sail, are the
reason why the waters around the island attract boats in the summer. There are two marinas
on the island which offer everything sailors need in terms of infrastructure and comfort.
26
27
The Geopark Rab is in process of establishment. It promotes and protects
the geological heritage of the island. Take a tour along geo-trails over the
over the Rab Island and enjoy the magnificent geodiversity in various rocks
and fossils. You will learn something about history of our planet Earth
written in rocks, textures and structures.
RECREATION
The island of Rab is the ninth largest island in the Adriatic and the whole island is crisscrossed
by attractive walking and cycle trails. Tourists can obtain a map indicating these paths. All
the tourist trails, both for mountain climbers and walkers, are carefully indicated together
with marked panoramic viewpoints. Of special interest is the trail which leads up to the
highest peak on Rab, Kamenjak, or perhaps the historic Premuzić’s Path (Premuzićeva staza),
constructed by the famous Croatian creator of mountaineering trails, Ante Premužić. From
the top of Kamenjak, a beautiful panoramic view stretches over the whole island as well as
out over a large portion of the Velebit range and the Velebit channel. As for Premuzić’s Path,
this passes through the most interesting parts of Kalifront, the protected forest of Dundo and
at one point through an area where the effects of erosion can clearly be seen on the flysch
formations.
The surrounding area of the town of Rab is also rich in pleasant and easy walking and cycle
paths, as is the centuries-old forest of Kalifront. In the northernmost part of the island, in the
region of Lopar and Fruga, there are several more very interesting trails which lead to sandy
beaches and flysch ridges.
MARINA SUPETARSKA DRAGA
MARINAS
Marine tourism in Croatia is on the rise and the number of boats sailing the Adriatic during summer ever greater. In recent
years, yachts belonging to some of the richest people in the world have come to the Adriatic and have visited Rab too,
bringing to mind the days when members of the British Royal family stayed on Rab.
The marina in Rab’s town harbour is an especially beautiful spot to moor a yacht. This is where you will moor if you want to
enjoy the delights of the town of Rab without straying far from your pride and joy. All the services sailors might need are
here, with workshops for essential repairs and a boat crane.
The close proximity of the town of Rab is a special attraction of the Rab Marina, with its cockpit view of the four Rab bell
towers and the beautiful town panorama, which has endured for thousands of years.
The marina in Supetarska Draga offers a quite different experience. Constructed alongside a small fishing and farming
settlement, this marina provides direct contact with nature. Located in the northern part of the island, the marina offers
safe mooring for larger yachts as well as all the other services needed by sailors - workshops for repairs and a marine crane
for lifting boats - making for a very reliable winter mooring.
The marina offers all the other necessary facilities, together with the peace of a wide bay and a location in a small village.
Near to it, there are some very interesting sailing destinations: the archipelago of small islands scattered before the entrance
to the bay, or excursions to the nearby islands of Grgur, Goli or Prvić.
Rab has two very attractive campsites for those guests who love to be in close contact with nature on their summer holiday.
Padova III
The Padova III campsite is situated very close to the town of Rab. The camp can accommodate around 1500 guests on its orderly
plots, be it on its flat portion or on the small hill along the border of the camp, which is covered in centuries-old pines and is a
favourite spot for younger guests choosing to holiday in tents. The camp boasts an excellent infrastructure, a leisure and shopping
centre, restaurants...
The town of Rab can be reached by boat in only five or six minutes or on foot, a pleasant walk lasting 20 minutes.
In front of the campsite there is a well-tended sandy beach, with mooring for small boats and a smaller stony beach along the
coastal road.
San Marino
The San Marino campsite, not far from Lopar, can accommodate 3000 guests who can set up camp on well-tended plots or in
modern, well-equipped mobile homes.
known as the Paradise Beach.
The turquoise sea, the safe and spacious bay and the large beach are a guarantee of a pleasant time of leisure by the sea. The
camp itself is located in the shade of poplars and so provides a pleasant environment even in mid-summer.
RAB TOWN
BANJOL
BARBAT
PALIT
TOURIST TOWNS
The town of Rab is a special place on the island for tourists. With its historic, cultural and tourist heritage, Rab is a true jewel.
Besides the town of Rab itself, there is a range of interesting tourist locations on the island, each of which captures the imagination in a different
way, whether with its beauty, peace, beaches or range of available apartments.Almost as though they were a part of the town of Rab, Banjol and
Barbat continue to the southeast. Once these were rural areas around the town, abundant in vineyards and fertile gardens. Today they are full
of beautiful houses with extremely comfortable privately-owned apartments and rooms in family houses. Barbat is also notable for its series of
small harbours along the coastal road, almost like small marinas, where both guests and their hosts find a place to moor.
This area is also of interest for its long chain of small sandy beaches in the Pudarica region.
TOURIST TOWNS
What makes Barbat and Banjol famous throughout Europe are the 10 or so restaurants here, which are among the best in the Adriatic.
Top-class fresh fish, home-grown vegetables and quality wines are just part of the guarantee of quality. The rest can be attributed to the
experience, know-how and skill of the local chefs and waiters, who evoke the admiration of guests with their abilities and with their polite
service.
A couple of kilometres further, on the other side of the town of Rab, we find the tourist towns of Palit and Kampor. In terms of the
landscape, it is as though we are on a different island. Here everything is more peaceful, and the great bays and thick pine and oak woods
give this part of the island of Rab a special tranquillity.
In Palit and Kampor, accommodation can
be found in rooms and apartments of the
highest standard, as well as restaurants
offering top-quality cuisine.
KAMPOR
SUPETARSKA DRAGA
The image of Supetarska Draga, the town
of the same name and the largest bay
on the island, is graced by a number of
beautiful sandy islets at the entrance to
the bay. Supetarska Draga is home to a
large marina and offers an excellent range
of family accommodation. Its numerous
guests say that the sunset in Supetarska
Draga is unforgettable. Continuing along
the fertile valley from Supetarska Draga
towards the interior of the island, we find
the only Rab settlement that is not on the
coast - Mundanije. Nevertheless, this village
offers tourists a pleasant and peaceful stay
in family homes adapted to take tourists.
GONAR
MUNDANIJE
At the extreme north of the island is the
region of Lopar, with its rich selection of
accommodation in apartments, rooms
and small family hotels and bed-andbreakfasts.
Around the town there are 22
sandy beaches, each more fascinating than
the next. The largest is the Paradise Beach,
no less than 1500 metres long, along which
the largest hotel and tourist complex and
campsite of San Marino is situated. Near to
this is a leisure centre, with sports facilities,
tennis courts and much more.
Within the tourist complex and leisure
centre, there are several nightclubs
which are especially lively in the summer
months.
And that is Rab - a picture of an island,
its history, culture and civilisation, a
picture of the work of its people and their
achievements in tourism. We know that
we have not said everything that deserves
to be said of Rab. That would take much
more space than this tourist brochure
allows. But we are convinced that visitors
S. DRAGA
to Rab will discover many more interesting
and beautiful places and experience many
enjoyable moments. Such a personal
experience cannot be described in a
publication like this. It is a treasure that
every guest on Rab will take home with
them, a treasure which may just bring
them back to Rab again.
LOCATION AND CLIMATE
The island of Rab belongs to the northern group of
Adriatic islands in the Kvarner Gulf and is located at
44 degrees north. It lies at the foot of Velebit, a high
mountain of the Dinaric range, which ensures that all
year round there is a supply of fresh, clean continental
air, warmed to a pleasant Mediterranean temperature,
which in summer averages 26°C, and in the winter
months 7°C. It should be noted that for more than 140
days in the year, the air temperature is more than 18°C.
A pleasant and mild Mistral wind blows in the summer
months, and in winter a dry and chilly Bora (Croatian,
bura). The island is lapped by a clean and clear sea,
carried by a constant current from a southerly direction,
the direction of the ecologically pure Mediterranean.
In the summer months, the sea reaches an average
temperature of 24°C and in winter averages 12°C.
The large hill of Kamenjak stretches along the northeastern
side of the island, like some great stone wall
protecting the rest of the island from the direct effects of
the sharp continental air and ensuring one can enjoy the
blessings of the warm Mediterranean sun, which shines
for more than 2470 hours annually on Rab.
