LOCATION AND CLIMATE<br />
The island of <strong>Rab</strong> belongs to the northern group of<br />
Adriatic islands in the Kvarner Gulf and is located at<br />
44 degrees north. It lies at the foot of Velebit, a high<br />
mountain of the Dinaric range, which ensures that all<br />
year round there is a supply of fresh, clean continental<br />
air, warmed to a pleasant Mediterranean temperature,<br />
which in summer averages 26°C, and in the winter<br />
months 7°C. It should be noted that for more than 140<br />
days in the year, the air temperature is more than 18°C.<br />
A pleasant and mild Mistral wind blows in the summer<br />
months, and in winter a dry and chilly Bora (Croatian,<br />
bura). The island is lapped by a clean and clear sea,<br />
carried by a constant current from a southerly direction,<br />
the direction of the ecologically pure Mediterranean.<br />
In the summer months, the sea reaches an average<br />
temperature of 24°C and in winter averages 12°C.<br />
The large hill of Kamenjak stretches along the northeastern<br />
side of the island, like some great stone wall<br />
protecting the rest of the island from the direct effects of<br />
the sharp continental air and ensuring one can enjoy the<br />
blessings of the warm Mediterranean sun, which shines<br />
for more than 2470 hours annually on <strong>Rab</strong>.<br />

Ferry connections and schedules - Rapska plovidba<br />
The best connection between the island and the<br />
mainland is via the ferry service operated by <strong>Rab</strong><br />
carrier Rapska plovidba, which departs from the dock<br />
in Jablanac on the mainland and arrives at the Mišnjak<br />
dock on the south side of the island of <strong>Rab</strong>. The journey<br />
takes only 12 minutes and the route operates all year<br />
round, with a departure every one to two hours.<br />

Ferry connections and schedules - Jadrolinija<br />
The ferry service between the port of Baška on the<br />
island of Krk and the port of Lopar in the north of the<br />
island of <strong>Rab</strong> operates in the summer months. The<br />
journey takes 50 minutes, with a departure four times<br />

Ferry connections and schedules - Splittours<br />
The ferry service from the port of Lopar in the north of<br />
the island of <strong>Rab</strong> to the port of Valbiska on the island of<br />
Krk and back operates all year round, with departures<br />
twice a day, four times a day in the summer months. The<br />
journey takes one hour and 30 minutes.<br />

Catamaran ferry connections and schedules -<br />
Jadrolinija<br />
A passenger-only catamaran ferry route from the port of<br />
Rijeka to the port in the town of <strong>Rab</strong> and back operates<br />
all year round, with departures once daily. The journey<br />
