The society <strong>and</strong> economy of <strong>Vietnam</strong> is currently<br />

characterized by a rapid transformation process.<br />

From 8th to 9th October 2012, Prof. Dr. Ingrid Artus<br />

(Institute for Sociology/Friedrich-Alex<strong>and</strong>er-University<br />

of Erlangen-Nuremberg) <strong>and</strong> Prof. Dr. Uwe<br />

Blien (Institute for <strong>Labour</strong>-<strong>Market</strong> <strong>and</strong> Occupational<br />

Research of Nuremberg; Institute for Sociology/<br />

University of Bamberg) are chair<strong>in</strong>g an <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />

expert conference. The symposium is about tak<strong>in</strong>g<br />

stock of the contradictory as much as rapid re-orientation<br />

processes of the labour market <strong>and</strong> the <strong>in</strong>dustrial<br />

relations <strong>in</strong> <strong>Vietnam</strong>. Build<strong>in</strong>g up an improved<br />

scientific basis for the <strong>in</strong>stitutional regulation<br />

of the labour market <strong>and</strong> amplify<strong>in</strong>g the debates <strong>in</strong><br />

economic sociology <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustrial relations theory<br />

are the pr<strong>in</strong>cipal aims of the conference. Dur<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

two-day conference experts from <strong>Vietnam</strong> <strong>and</strong> Germany<br />

as well as <strong>in</strong>ternational scientists will discuss<br />

the relation between culture <strong>and</strong> capitalism, the<br />

comparison of <strong>Vietnam</strong> with other transformation<br />

societies, the <strong>in</strong>terdependencies between German<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>Vietnam</strong>ese labour markets <strong>and</strong> the question, if<br />

Asia is a new focal po<strong>in</strong>t of <strong>in</strong>dustrial conflicts.<br />

Conference language is English.<br />
