<strong>Glens</strong> <strong>Falls</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> established a “Green Team” in 2009, responsible for<br />
proactively tracking and looking for ways to improve the <strong>Hospital</strong>’s energy,<br />
nutrition, paper and recycling processes.<br />

The <strong>Hospital</strong>’s Cafeteria and Bistro replaced all polystyrene foam takeout<br />
containers with a new type of biodegradable container made from potatoes<br />
called “Tater Ware.”<br />

We now use napkin products containing 100 percent recovered paper fiber<br />
and 40 percent consumer materials by fiber weight. This effort earned the<br />
<strong>Hospital</strong> the Green Seal environmental standard for bleaching, drinking and<br />
packaging.<br />

New napkin dispensing stations reduced usage by more than 200,000<br />
napkins in 2009.<br />

32,000 pounds of paper used at the <strong>Hospital</strong> comes from recycled paper,<br />
saving approximately one ton of solid waste per year.<br />

Overall paper usage in 2009 was down by 452,000 pounds compared to<br />
2008, the equivalent of more than 40 trees.<br />

The <strong>Hospital</strong> recycles nearly 800 pounds of batteries per year.<br />
Through our reusable Sharps Container Program, 115,120 pounds of plastic<br />
were kept out of landfills.<br />

<strong>Glens</strong> <strong>Falls</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong>’s Green Team draws support from four<br />
initiatives, not only to protect<br />
unique work groups who focus on energy, nutrition, paper and<br />
recycling. As a result of our energy conservation measures in<br />
this generation, but for the<br />
2009, we saved enough energy – 1.85 million kW h compared<br />
to 2008 – to power 308 average U.S. homes for a year.<br />
