Since our founding in 1897, through the investment
and involvement of local people, the history of Glens
Falls Hospital is testament to what our community can
accomplish. The Hospital could not have become the
comprehensive institution it is today without private
philanthropic support. Since our inception people have
contributed to our growth and, therefore, the growth and
health of the community.
For more than a decade we have acknowledged those who have
shared their intentions to include Glens Falls Hospital in their estate plans.
This group is an integral part of our community. They look to advance the Hospital for future
generations, while being mindful of our past.
This circular view, with the Hospital’s beginning as the center, has prompted us to reflect on a more
personal name for the individuals who have made known their intentions. Henceforth, they will be
known as the Glens Falls Hospital 1897 Circle. A circle is a never-ending ring of life. Becoming
part of a beneficial circle is encompassing and inviting for all involved.
In the logo, the 18 and 97 are purposely split to further emphasize the significance of this “circle of
life.” One ancient tradition associates letters to numbers. The word for Life (Chai), consists of two
Hebrew letters whose equivalent equals 18. Because the numerical equivalent of these two letters
“adds up to” LIFE, 18 is a lucky number for many – believed to ensure good luck and long life.
We celebrate our friends who have reached beyond their own lives to enhance the opportunities
for future generations. By doing so, they have expressed their generosity and love of the Hospital
through a planned gift. Glens Falls Hospital salutes these friends as visionaries of our 21 st Century
Hospital’s growth. In their commitment to the future, the following truly demonstrate the meaning
of Hometown Care.
