Description of <strong>Saferworld</strong>:<br />

<strong>Saferworld</strong> is an independent non-governmental organisation that works to prevent and reduce violent conflict and<br />

promote cooperative approaches to security. We work with civil society, governments and international<br />

organisations to encourage and support effective policies and practices through advocacy, research and policy<br />

development, and through supporting the actions of others.<br />

Job Purpose:<br />

We are seeking an experienced <strong>Finance</strong> <strong>Officer</strong> to join our team in Nairobi. The person appointed will be<br />

responsible for ensuring the efficient and transparent management of finances in line with recognised<br />

accounting/auditing standards and <strong>Saferworld</strong> procedures.<br />

Maintain a proper and orderly filing system.<br />

Assist in maintaining computerised accounting records using quick books.<br />

Manage payments and receipts, and accountability of Kenyan programme staff.<br />

Assist in preparing the necessary documentation required for cheque payments.<br />

Manage petty cash payments and perform weekly petty cash reconciliations.<br />

Assist preparing documents for monthly statutory payments and ensure that they are prepared and<br />

submitted timely.<br />

Assist in preparation of donor financial reports.<br />

Assist during audits (internal or external)<br />

PERSON SPECIFICATION<br />

A basic degree (Economics / Accounting / <strong>Finance</strong> or Business Administration) or compensating relevant<br />

work experience.<br />

Qualified CPA part II<br />

2 years’ experience in financial management/administration ideally within an non-governmental<br />

organisation (NGO)<br />

Experience of computerised accounting software (QuickBooks or Sage)<br />

Experience of donor reporting ideally within the NGO sector<br />

Experience of analysing financial information<br />

Detail oriented with good multi-tasking abilities and communication skills


TERMS AND CONDITIONS<br />

Contract Duration: 1 st April 2013 – 31 st July 2013<br />

Monthly salary: Kshs 120,000/= per month<br />

Probation: There will be a probationary period of two weeks<br />

Leave entitlement: 9 days in addition to relevant public holidays<br />

Hours: Standard working week is 37.5. However the demands of the job are likely to be such that a willingness to<br />

work longer hours, as required, will be necessary<br />
