Prelim<strong>in</strong>ary outcome performance <strong>in</strong>dicators identified were:<br />
■ Number of <strong>in</strong>juries <strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g employees (especially, new employees), subcontractors<br />
or o<strong>the</strong>rs on site, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g:<br />
■ m<strong>in</strong>or work-related <strong>in</strong>juries. For example, visits to first aid or medical facility;<br />
■ o<strong>the</strong>r work-related <strong>in</strong>juries which resulted <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> worker tak<strong>in</strong>g time off work;<br />
■ any work-related <strong>in</strong>juries that required a worker to undertake alternative work<br />
duties; and<br />
compensable work-related <strong>in</strong>juries.<br />
■ Number of occurrences where <strong>the</strong>re was damage to property (i.e. mach<strong>in</strong>ery,<br />
equipment, structures) or potential <strong>in</strong>jury to employees, sub-contractors or o<strong>the</strong>rs<br />
(i.e. near misses).<br />
On advice from <strong>in</strong>dustry, <strong>the</strong>se performance <strong>in</strong>dicators were categorised by <strong>the</strong> ‘<strong>OHS</strong><br />
phases’ of a construction project. These stages <strong>in</strong>cluded:<br />
(1) establishment of a charter regard<strong>in</strong>g <strong>OHS</strong>;<br />
(2) establishment of a site specific <strong>OHS</strong> management system;<br />
(3) identification of major hazards at <strong>the</strong> site;<br />
(4) self assessment of <strong>the</strong> <strong>OHS</strong> management system;<br />
(5) self assessment of major hazards; and<br />
(6) completion of an <strong>in</strong>dependent audit.<br />
