Attendance at the 2007 North American
International Livestock Exposition (NAILE)
tied the second largest total in the event’s 34-year
history. New competitions attracted breeders and
agricultural enthusiasts from different sectors of
the livestock industry for the first time in the
event’s history, but the national spotlight around
the prestigious show brought numerous repeat
visitors and capped off the highly successful year
with 210,000 attendees.
When NAILE transformed the Kentucky
Exposition Center into the world’s largest purebred
livestock show November 3-16, exhibitors from
all 48 contiguous states, five continents and 10
countries brought more than 22,000 entries,
attended more than 140 shows, sales and breed
meetings and left their mark on Kentucky and
surrounding areas with an economic impact of
more than $11.6 million.
• Competitive Entries – With the addition of a
tenth competitive category, mules and donkeys,
the number of NAILE entries climbed to the
highest on record with a total of 22,691, a 4%
increase over 2006. Nearly every species of
animal in the competition saw an increase in
entries, including: dairy cattle (+1%), dairy goats
(+3.5%), beef cattle (+3.5%), swine (+6%), Boer
goats (+15%) and llamas and alpacas (+25%).
• Livestock Shows – NAILE attracted the largest
number of entries in its 34-year history in the
wether goat (282), llama & alpaca (338), Boer
goat (635), dairy goat (776), junior swine (928),
junior sheep (1,504) and junior beef shows
(1,527).
• Premiums and Awards – More premiums and
awards ($695,000) were given than any other
time in the event’s history. The addition of two
junior supreme champions, the mule & donkey
class and several new competitive categories lead
to this increase.
• School Tour Program – School tour attendance
reached the second largest total in NAILE’s
history with 4,813 students and teachers
attending educational field trips.
• Sponsorship Revenue – Sponsorship Revenue
reached a record high as $28,750 was given by
sponsors, a 25% increase over 2006.
• North American Sale of Champions – Auction
sales ($90,000) reached the third highest total
in the history of the North American Sale of
Champions.
• National Shows – Several premier events in the
livestock industry took place during NAILE
including: the National Simmental Show, the
National Maine-Ajou Show, the National
Charolais Show and the 125th Anniversary
Southdown Show.
• Charitable Donations – Money was raised
for local and national charities; a portion
of the proceeds from the North American
Championship Rodeo was donated the Susan
G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research
and a portion of the sales from the North
American Sale of Champions was donated
to Kentucky Harvest to fund “Blessings in a
Backpack” for area school children.
