Postnatal care � Parents with substance misuse problems may need considerable help and support to cope with the transition into parenthood. Planned support that continues into the postnatal period is crucial. � The postnatal period can be a stressful time for parents. For mothers who have managed to reduce their drug and alcohol use during pregnancy, the risk of relapse to former levels of drug taking is high.
