COLLEGE NOTICES QLD Health School Dental Service Mobile Van is here! The van will be here until all eligible students from Prep to Year 10 are seen. Consent forms will be sent home with your child as each class is systematically processed. REP shirt week In recognition of the outstanding ways in which Riverside students excel in the broader community, the last week of every Term has now become Rep Shirt Week. During this week, all students may wear their representative polo shirts. A representative polo shirt is defined as‐ having a collar and sleeves (sun safe is important); and, was earned whist a student at Riverside. Examples include‐ Wide Bay Rep; YouthTrek; HPV; and the like. Class Lists for 2013 It is important for the College to have a transparent process for compiling class lists for each new year. The compilation of class lists is not a quick or easy exercise and much time, thought and prayer is put into the process. It is understandable that families have a lot invested in which class they prefer. The College acknowledges that parents know their children best, in non‐school contexts, and respect the insights parents may have in relation to placement of their children. This procedure gives an opportunity for parents to share these insights with the College so that they may be considered when classes are formed. PROCEDURE A. Parents are notified via the newsletter in that class lists are being compiled. If parents desire to have input into the compilation process, they may do so in writing to the Head of College, no later than Week 7 of Term 4. B. Current teachers of students advise Head of College about: 1. general academic ability 2. behavioural patterns 3. social groupings C. EdZone (Education Support Unit) provides input to Head of College D. The strengths and input of the potential next year’s teachers are considered E. The Head of College, in consultation with staff, compiles class lists whilst giving full consideration to class numbers, gender balance, behavioural demands, parent insights, general ability, social needs, timetabling and the like. F. Lists are displayed at the College the workday before Term 1 begins. G. The lists as published are final. H. The Principal is the only person in the College who may, in exceptional circumstances, alter the class allocations after lists are published. DEADLINE FOR NOTIFICATION ‐ FRIDAY 23 NOVEMBER LIFE GIVING DONATION IS APPRECIATED Life International has sent Riverside a bronze statue called “The Heart of the Father” in appreciation for the huge donation our College made to help the starving children in Africa. The College used the proceeds from the Garage Sale in 2011 to send to Life International. (The statue is on display in our Main College Reception.) The following rewards are still available until the end of the year: Money boxes except for Spen Booklight Pen Pod USB. Remember.....school banking day is Thursday. News 14
COMMUNITY NOTICES “Come and Try” Day ‐ 15th December 2012 Fraser Coast Calisthenics Club Inc is holding a “Come and Try Day” on Saturday 15th December from 2pm until 4pm at their club hall in Sussex St behind the High School oval. Calisthenics involves a variety of disciplines including simplified ballet, club swinging, rod twirling, singing & acting, gymnastics and dance. Qualified, accredited coaches will be in attendance to show basic skills and concert videos can be viewed, so come along and have a go! The Club’s annual ‘Sign On Day’ will be held on 2nd February 2013 from 10am until 2pm.
