Training and Workforce Development 

LANDMAN Seminar 

We’re offering training for new and experienced landmen and people 

interested in becoming landmen. This course will include information 

about oil and gas real estate law, contracts, titles, landowner negotiation, 

and upstream and downstream of the lease. This course focuses on the 

legal and ethical aspects of procuring lease land for the exploration and 

development in Pennsylvania and the entire Appalachian Basin. 

The instructors for this course are an associate of Steptoe and Johnson 

Attorneys at Law, LLC and Jim Macfarlane of Minard Run Oil. This 

class will provide AAPL Continuing Education Credits. (Overnight 

accommodations on campus air-conditioned rooms are available. Call

OSHA Mini-Safety Series – Back by Popular Demand! 

These short classes are topic-focused seminars that cover one to two 

specific safety areas that may be of interest to many industry clusters, 

including oil and gas, health care and construction. These sessions are 

designed for supervisors and safety directors to enhance your ability to 

keep your people safe and in compliance with OSHA regulations. 

These classes are designed and provided through an alliance between 

Pitt-Bradford and the OSHA Erie Office. 

• Nursing Home and Residential Care Facilities NEP 

The National Emphasis Program (NEP) for Nursing Homes and 

Residential Care Facilities will include NEP background, inspection 

procedures, training components, and resident-handling issues. 

Workplace violence and ergonomic issues will round out the topics.

Part 1: We will cover two separate topics that address safety subjects,

Classification and Labeling of Chemicals, along with (2nd Half) 

communication standards, implementation timeframes and 

compliance issues will be covered.

QuickBooks – Newest Edition Available 

This course is an introduction to QuickBooks to give you its basic features 

and an opportunity for hands-on practice. You’ll learn about the types of 

information you need to track in your business or on the job, and you’ll see 

how to enter that information and track it in QuickBooks. By the time you 

complete this course, you’ll have a good idea of all that QuickBooks offers, 

you’ll be familiar with the most common tasks and you’ll know where to 

find information about more advanced features.

Microsoft Word 1 

Using MS Word 2010, you will get an overview of Microsoft Word. You’ll 

learn how to navigate and make the most of the tool bars. You’ll learn 

how to create, edit, manipulate and save documents using this powerful 

software. Your instructor will help you explore this program so that you’re 

more efficient and productive at work and home. Take home a laminated 

guide that will help you to remember the skills you learned and teach you 

new skills as you practice on your own.

Advance your skills in MS Word 2010. You will learn to create text columns, 

change character and line spacing, create different page layouts, 

and customize themes, set up tables and charts. You will also learn how 

to insert links among other import features of this program.

Excel 1 

This course will cover basic Excel screen overview, understanding 

and developing formulas, basic functions (sum, average, max, min), 

absolute and relative cell referencing, basic formatting and working 

with worksheets (inserting, renaming, deleting) and worksheet layout. 

This will be a fun-filled, fast-paced course.

Excel 2 

In this course you will learn more advanced functions (IF, COUNTIF, 

SUMIF, VLookup, HLookup, etc.), more complicated formulas such as 3D 

formulas, list processing, pivot tables and charting. You should have previous 

Excel experience or have taken the Basic Excel course.

Microsoft Access 2010 Basic 

In this course you will review the new Access features for 2010. You will 

learn about relational databases, terms and concepts, field types, data 

types, and naming rules and conventions. You will also learn how to 

create a basic table, query, form and reports both by using wizards and 

by designing from scratch. Learn how to sort and filter data to customize 

views. You will also have an introduction to table relationships editing a 

table, a form, and a query.

Navigating the Internet for Seniors 

This hands-on class, designed with seniors in mind, will teach you how 

to use the Internet. The Internet is a big and sometimes scary place, but 

there is so much good information you can get by using it. You’ll learn 

tips and tricks to make your Internet browsing safe and efficient. We’ll 

cover connecting to the Internet, browsers, searching, bookmarks, Internet 

safety and much more.

Personal Enrichment and Recreation 

ANF Photo Trek 

Join renowned published photographer Ed Bernik for three days of 

photography in the Allegheny National Forest (ANF), the jewel of 

the Appalachian Plateau. You will discover and photograph dense 

old-growth woodlands, pristine native brook trout streams, outrageous 

rock formations, unique historical architecture and more Appalachian 

characters than you can shake a stick at. Each day you will trek into 

the ANF and surrounding areas to photograph the flora, fauna and landscapes 

of this unique natural environment. You will learn the art of seeing, 

how to choose a lens, and the details of exposure and composition. You’ll 

also learn how to use flash and how to shoot in both black and white and 

color. Student photo critiques will also be a part of this experience. 

You are requested to bring comfortable walking shoes; rain gear; digital 

DSLR camera; additional lenses, including wide angle, telephoto, prime 

lenses, and macro (a kit lens is acceptable); polarizing filter; neutral or 

graduated neutral density filter; flash; tripod and a laptop (not required) 

for download and review. Some equipment will be available for loan. Two 

lodging options are available – resident (on-campus lodging) or non-resident 

(lodging on your own). Additional nights’ lodging is available at an 

additional fee. Travel to locations will be by participant car pool. Trek will 

occur rain or shine. 

$625 per person for residents. Fee includes instruction, two nights’ lodging 

in comfortable air-conditioned residence hall rooms (linens provided) at 

Pitt-Bradford, three breakfasts, two lunches and two dinners 

$450 per person non-resident participant - fee includes instruction, three 

breakfasts, two lunches and two dinners

Beginning Canoeing New! 

Have fun this summer on the water canoeing. You will learn the basics 

of canoeing on flat water, canoe safety, proper equipment, entering and 

exiting a canoe safely, proper strokes and how to steer a canoe. There 

will be one evening lesson to learn the basics and one morning session 

to practice and enjoy your new skills. Youths 12 and older may register 

with a parent. Class includes use of canoe, personal flotation device and 

paddle. Bring water and snacks for morning session. Wear comfortable 

clothing, water-friendly shoes, rain gear and a sun hat. Rain or shine.

Landscape Oil Painting 

Instructor Cindy Nowacki will 

provide you with step-by-step 

instructions to paint with oils 

on canvas. You will take home 

a beautiful oil painting suitable 

for framing when you complete 

this design in a two-night class. 

No painting experience is 

necessary, and all materials for 

the class will be provided.

Writing Personal Narrative 

with Dr. Dani Weber 

This writing workshop will focus on using personal narrative to tell 

stories, recording family histories or writing a memoir, whether for 

yourself, your family or with an eye toward publication. Using mentor 

texts as models, we will study and practice techniques of good writing. 

Those willing will have ample opportunity to share their stories with the 

group.

Wire Wrapping Cabochons 

Wire wrapping cabochon jewelry is a method 

of taking normal everyday wire and bending it 

around a cut and/or polished stone (cabochon), 

and making it look pretty. The nice thing about 

this is that it can be as inexpensive or as pricey as 

you want. You can use different quality of wire 

and stones, any of which can be made to look 

gorgeous when you know what you’re 

doing. Materials and supplies are included in 

the price of the course. (Anyone allergic to copper, 

has difficulty with wrist movement or may have 

arthritis should refrain from taking this class.)

Introduction to GPS and Geocaching (Parent and Child) 

Geocaching is the hottest outdoor activity these days. You will learn 

about GPS (global positioning system) and how to use it. You will 

also participate in a gentle 1.5-mile geocaching treasure hunt on the 

Kinzua Bridge State Park’s trails. You will learn to navigate through 

appropriate GPS screens, use the GPS unit to find a geocache and 

find out about geocaching etiquette. GPS equipment will be 

provided for use. Wear comfortable walking shoes and pack water 

and a lunch. Rain or shine. Class meets at Kinzua Bridge State Park 

Pavilion. Youths 10 and older may register with a parent.

Wellness and Fitness 

Water Aerobics- 10-Week Session 

Make a splash with this fun water-aerobic exercise class. You will 

be led through a variety of low- to mid-intensity workouts that will 

incorporate flexibility, toning and cardio. Both shallow and deep 

water will be used to vary the intensity of the workouts. You don’t 

need swimming skills to participate. Bring suit and towel.

Wellness Program 

In an effort to promote healthy lifestyles in our community, the popular Wellness 

Program will be offered again. The program gives participants the opportunity 

to enroll in any one-credit physical education class* and have full access 

to all the facilities offered in our Dr. Richard and Ruth McDowell Sport and 

Fitness Center. This program is open only to participants 18 and older. All 

participants are required to complete a one-hour student orientation program 

to familiarize themselves with the facility, rules and proper use of equipment. 

*Enrollment in any of the physical education classes is optional. 

Summer Term – $125 per participant 

May 1 - August 23 

* Courses are available as long as there is capacity after all credit-seeking Pitt-Bradford 

students are enrolled in these courses. Wellness Program students do not receive any 

academic credit for participation in any physical education courses through this program. 

There may be equipment and/or material fee associated with these programs. These fees 

will be the sole responsibility of the participants. This is a noncredit personal enrichment 

program. 

OFF-Campus Classes 

Pharmacy Technician Certification Program - Warren 

This 50-hour comprehensive program will prepare you to enter the 

pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s 

PTCB exam. Technicians work in hospitals, home-infusion pharmacies, 

community pharmacies and other health care settings, working under the 

supervision of a registered pharmacist. You’ll learn medical terminology 

specific to the pharmacy field, how to read and interpret prescriptions, 

and define drugs by generic and brand names. You’ll also learn dosage 

calculations, IV flow rates, drug-compounding, dose conversions, 

prescription dispensing, inventory control, and billing and reimbursement. 

$999 per participant, includes all materials

Microsoft Access 2010 Intermediate - St. Marys 

Using more advanced features of Access 2010, you will learn about 

multiple tables, table relationships, creating queries, forms, subforms, 

reports from multiple tables, creating lookup fields and tables. 

You will learn how to control user input and reduce input errors 

by setting validation rules and other parameters. Learn the many 

uses of Property Sheets and field and record controls, and generate 

advanced queries to customize user views by using criteria and other 

methods. Other topics covered will be database security, setting user 

access, importing and exporting to/from Excel and Word and other 

file types.

Basic Digital Photography - St. Marys 

If you are interested in learning more about how to use your digital 

camera besides just “pointing and shooting” then you will want 

to take this course. You will learn about framing, composition and 

creativity in taking great pictures. Topics covered will include taking 

not just good, but great pictures; an introduction to basic camera 

functions and their uses; taking pictures beyond the ordinary; and 

handling special scenes, including backlit scenes, sports and action 

photos, family & children, portraits, landscapes, close-ups and macro 

photography. Students 

must bring their own
