LANDMAN Seminar<br />

We’re <strong>of</strong>fering training for new and experienced landmen and people<br />

interested in becoming landmen. This course will include information<br />

about oil and gas real estate law, contracts, titles, landowner negotiation,<br />

and upstream and downstream <strong>of</strong> the lease. This course focuses on the<br />

legal and ethical aspects <strong>of</strong> procuring lease land for the exploration and<br />

development in Pennsylvania and the entire Appalachian Basin.<br />

The instructors for this course are an associate <strong>of</strong> Steptoe and Johnson<br />

cover connecting to the Internet, browsers, searching, bookmarks, Internet<br />

Personal Enrichment and Recreation<br />

ANF Photo Trek<br />

Join renowned published photographer Ed Bernik for three days <strong>of</strong><br />

photography in the Allegheny National Forest (ANF), the jewel <strong>of</strong><br />

the Appalachian Plateau. You will discover and photograph dense<br />

old-growth woodlands, pristine native brook trout streams, outrageous<br />

rock formations, unique historical architecture and more Appalachian<br />

characters than you can shake a stick at. Each day you will trek into<br />

the ANF and surrounding areas to photograph the flora, fauna and landscapes<br />

<strong>of</strong> this unique natural environment. You will learn the art <strong>of</strong> seeing,<br />

how to choose a lens, and the details <strong>of</strong> exposure and composition. You’ll<br />

also learn how to use flash and how to shoot in both black and white and<br />

color. Student photo critiques will also be a part <strong>of</strong> this experience.<br />

You are requested to bring comfortable walking shoes; rain gear; digital<br />

DSLR camera; additional lenses, including wide angle, telephoto, prime<br />

lenses, and macro (a kit lens is acceptable); polarizing filter; neutral or<br />

graduated neutral density filter; flash; tripod and a laptop (not required)<br />

for download and review. Some equipment will be available for loan. Two<br />

lodging options are available – resident (on-campus lodging) or non-resident<br />

(lodging on your own). Additional nights’ lodging is available at an<br />

additional fee. Travel to locations will be by participant car pool. Trek will<br />

occur rain or shine.<br />

Have fun this summer on the water canoeing. You will learn the basics<br />

<strong>of</strong> canoeing on flat water, canoe safety, proper equipment, entering and<br />

exiting a canoe safely, proper strokes and how to steer a canoe. There<br />

will be one evening lesson to learn the basics and one morning session<br />

to practice and enjoy your new skills. Youths 12 and older may register<br />

with a parent. Class includes use <strong>of</strong> canoe, personal flotation device and<br />

This writing workshop will focus on using personal narrative to tell<br />

stories, recording family histories or writing a memoir, whether for<br />

yourself, your family or with an eye toward publication. Using mentor<br />

texts as models, we will study and practice techniques <strong>of</strong> good writing.<br />

Those willing will have ample opportunity to share their stories with the<br />

group.<br />

Wire Wrapping Cabochons<br />

Wire wrapping cabochon jewelry is a method<br />

<strong>of</strong> taking normal everyday wire and bending it<br />

around a cut and/or polished stone (cabochon),<br />

and making it look pretty. The nice thing about<br />

this is that it can be as inexpensive or as pricey as<br />

you want. You can use different quality <strong>of</strong> wire<br />

and stones, any <strong>of</strong> which can be made to look<br />

gorgeous when you know what you’re<br />

doing. Materials and supplies are included in<br />

the price <strong>of</strong> the course. (Anyone allergic to copper,<br />

has difficulty with wrist movement or may have<br />

arthritis should refrain from taking this class.)<br />

Introduction to GPS and Geocaching (Parent and Child)<br />

Geocaching is the hottest outdoor activity these days. You will learn<br />

about GPS (global positioning system) and how to use it. You will<br />

also participate in a gentle 1.5-mile geocaching treasure hunt on the<br />

Kinzua Bridge State Park’s trails. You will learn to navigate through<br />

appropriate GPS screens, use the GPS unit to find a geocache and<br />

find out about geocaching etiquette. GPS equipment will be<br />

provided for use. Wear comfortable walking shoes and pack water<br />

and a lunch. Rain or shine. Class meets at Kinzua Bridge State Park<br />

In an effort to promote healthy lifestyles in our community, the popular Wellness<br />

Program will be <strong>of</strong>fered again. The program gives participants the opportunity<br />

to enroll in any one-credit physical education class* and have full access<br />

to all the facilities <strong>of</strong>fered in our Dr. Richard and Ruth McDowell Sport and<br />

Fitness Center. This program is open only to participants 18 and older. All<br />

participants are required to complete a one-hour student orientation program<br />

to familiarize themselves with the facility, rules and proper use <strong>of</strong> equipment.<br />

*Enrollment in any <strong>of</strong> the physical education classes is optional.<br />

Pharmacy Technician Certification Program - Warren<br />

This 50-hour comprehensive program will prepare you to enter the<br />

pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s<br />

PTCB exam. Technicians work in hospitals, home-infusion pharmacies,<br />

community pharmacies and other health care settings, working under the<br />

supervision <strong>of</strong> a registered pharmacist. You’ll learn medical terminology<br />

specific to the pharmacy field, how to read and interpret prescriptions,<br />

and define drugs by generic and brand names. You’ll also learn dosage<br />

calculations, IV flow rates, drug-compounding, dose conversions,<br />

prescription dispensing, inventory control, and billing and reimbursement.<br />

advanced queries to customize user views by using criteria and other<br />

access, importing and exporting to/from Excel and Word and other<br />

Payments, Refunds and Cancellations-Payments and/or billing arrangements must be<br />

made at the time <strong>of</strong> registration. You can pay for the program using check, money order or<br />

credit card. Refunds will be issued if the course is cancelled by the <strong>University</strong> or if the course<br />

is dropped before the cancellation deadline. Noncredit programs are subject to cancellation<br />

by the <strong>University</strong> for justifiable reasons such as insufficient enrollment. If you need to cancel<br />

your registration for a noncredit program, please notify Continuing Education and Regional<br />

Development 10 business days before the start <strong>of</strong> the program. If cancellation occurs fewer<br />

than 10 business days before the start <strong>of</strong> the program, no refund will be issued.<br />

first-served basis and are subject to class availability.<br />
