preserves protect an additional 540 acres. There's more to accomplish
on Mount Holly, of course, but the Harckham easement is a small but
important part of that larger whole.
Further south, the easement that Kenneth Heller donated in Rye
Brook protects 2.5 acres on Blind Brook, a tributary of Long Island
Sound. Stormwater-borne pollutants are serious problems in the
Sound and its harbors, and in an area like Rye Brook, where houses
on half-acre lots are the rule, every piece of protected land makes a
difference.
At 2.5 acres, the Heller property thus became one of our top 2006
easements, and Rye Brook became the 25th community in which we
had protected land.
