preserves protect an additional 540 acres. There's more to accomplish<br />

on Mount Holly, of course, but the Harckham easement is a small but<br />

important part of that larger whole.<br />

Further south, the easement that Kenneth Heller donated in Rye<br />

Brook protects 2.5 acres on Blind Brook, a tributary of Long Island<br />

Sound. Stormwater-borne pollutants are serious problems in the<br />

Sound and its harbors, and in an area like Rye Brook, where houses<br />

on half-acre lots are the rule, every piece of protected land makes a<br />

difference.<br />

At 2.5 acres, the Heller property thus became one of our top 20<strong>06</strong><br />

easements, and Rye Brook became the 25th community in which we<br />

had protected land.<br />
