tive, they need vibrant and welcoming parks to balance new development.
There's no better example of how important green space can
be than Glenwood Lake Park, which we've now helped expand twice.
Further north, we worked with officials from Westchester
County, New York State, the Watershed Agricultural Council, and
Yorktown and Cortlandt to secure $2.7 million in state funding to
protect Hemlock Hill Farm. The 116-acre farm, which spans the
Yorktown-Cortlandt border just north of the Croton Reservoir, has
been in the DeMaria family for years and, as part of the preservation
deal - the first of its kind in Westchester - the DeMarias promised
to continue to farm the land.
It's a stunning locale that easily could have been
the site of a housing development. Instead it will
help keep Westchester's rural heritage alive.
