Christian acquired his love for photography
while exploring the environments of his home state of New
York and his adopted state of Rhode Island. He took the
photographs in this Annual Report with a Holga camera,
an inexpensive, plastic, medium-format, pinhole camera.
The Holga uses a single plastic, convex lens with a 60-millimeter
focal length. The lens presents a fish-eyed, soft focused take on the
subject matter. The Holga can capture multiple exposures because
the film advance is manual (rather than linked to the shutter button).
Christian says, "It is this characteristic that attracts me. I work with
a technique that allows me to create panoramic images by overlapping
frames. I create a shorter picture by overlapping two or three
frames, or a very exaggerated picture by overlapping all 16 of the
roll's frames."
