The Microstereolithography System at IISc<br />

A microstereolithography system for rapid<br />

prototyping of 3D objects has been built. Studies<br />

have been conducted on preparation of polymer<br />

samples using this technique.<br />

Laboratory prototypes have been developed for<br />

Tin oxide based gas sensors including a microheater<br />

and ASIC for controlling the sensor<br />

operating temperature.<br />

An Ultrasonic Nozzle based Spraying System has<br />

been developed for the growth of nanoparticles<br />

and nano structured thin films. This system has<br />

been used for the growth of SnO2 nanoparticles<br />

upto 5 nm.<br />

Quantum Dots of semi-conducting materials like<br />

CdS and CdSSe have been grown in silica glass<br />

matrix and using these Quantum Dots, 475 nm and<br />

575 nm optical cut off filters have been developed<br />

which have various applications such as for Space<br />

and Railways.<br />

Transfer of <strong>Technology</strong><br />

The technology developed for detection of TNT<br />

vapors using fluorescence quenching principle is<br />

being explored for commercialization.<br />

About 170 research papers have been published/<br />

presented in International and National journals/<br />

conferences on Nanotechnology.<br />

Photonics Development Programme<br />

The range of Application areas covered by<br />

Photonics mainly include Communication, Sensing,<br />

Display, Imaging, Bio-Sciences & Medical, Defence,<br />

Industrial Applications, etc. The new upcoming and<br />

latest state-of-the-art technology areas majorly<br />

include Biophotonics, Nanophotonics, Polymer for<br />

Photonic, Photonic Crystal Fibers, Green Photonics,<br />

etc. The project supported are:-<br />

Biophotonics and Photonics for Health Care: Under<br />

the project Construction & Muti-site Commissioning<br />

of Multiple Fluorescence Correlation Spectrometers<br />

(a single molecule Biophotonics tool) at TIFR,<br />

Mumbai, the systems are installed in 11 different<br />

organizations in the country to be utilized for various<br />

Biophotonics studies. The scope of the project has<br />

now been enhanced to include developing<br />
