Shutõ (Knife - hand)<br />
When the open hand is<br />
used for shutõ, power must<br />
flow into the fingers until<br />
the fingers are tensed and<br />
strong. This applies especially<br />
to the small finger.<br />
Imagine that power is<br />
flowing into the fingers<br />
and then outward from the<br />
outer edge of the palm.<br />
Use this outer surface of<br />
the hand like a knife or<br />
sword to strike the opponent's<br />
arm or leg as he<br />
attacks. It is also effectively<br />
used in attacks to<br />
the opponent's temple, the<br />
side of his neck, or his<br />
ribs. When applying the<br />
knife-hand, snap the forearm<br />
outward from the elbow<br />
joint with<br />
maximum speed<br />
and power.
