E I S E N H O W E R M E D I C A L C E N T E R Cancer Conference Report Multidisciplinary cancer conferences are vital to the patient care process. Also known as Tumor Boards, the conferences bring together physicians and other health care professionals to plan treatment on individual cases. Tumor Boards are an opportunity for the review of diagnostics and recommend treatments for optimal patient care. These conferences provide excellent educational benefits for attendees and valuable multidisciplinary consultative and treatment guidance benefit for our patients. Cancer Conference case presentations are open to staff physicians. Eisenhower Medical Center currently has a Main Tumor Board with case presentations from all sites, as well as specialty tumor boards in breast, lung, gastrointestinal, brain and urological cancer sites. Please call the Cancer Registry to schedule a Tumor Board case at 760-837-8252. Through the commitment of many physicians at Eisenhower Medical Center, 655 cancer cases were discussed at Tumor Boards in 2012, including 99 percent prospective case presentations (Table 14). The Tumor Boards were well attended by representatives from Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Surgery, Pathology, Radiology, Nursing, Social Services, Clinical Research, Cancer Registry and other medical professionals, exceeding the goals set by the Cancer Committee. The Main Tumor Board is held on the first and third Mondays at the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences dining room. Breast Tumor Board and Urology Tumor Board meetings are held bi-monthly at Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center. A Gastrointestinal Tumor Board and a Thoracic Tumor Board are held monthly at Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center. In 2012, 1,181 physicians and 860 additional health care professionals attended Eisenhower Medical Center Tumor Boards. The Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower hosts Grand Rounds, Main Tumor Boards, and many other educational programs. Looking back on a decade of growth and program development, it is evident that the Cancer Center continues to This year also marked the greatest attendance volume for community outreach programs with more than 6,000 people taking advantage of the Cancer Center’s education series, support groups and wellness programs. With growth, comes the need to fund the services and programs offered at the Cancer Center. In October — recognized nationally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month — the Cancer Center turned pink in honor of BIGHORN Behind A Miracle (BAM), whose generosity has provided the Breast Center with the most cuttingedge technology available in the screening, detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. support the needs of an ever-growing Coachella Valley. In 2013, the Cancer Center expanded to include medical oncology, and the addition of two new infusion centers to accommodate anticipated patient volume. The Cancer Center is delighted to welcome Murthy Andavolu, MD; Kellie Flippin, MD; Varun Gupta, MD; Arun Kalra, MD; Iliana Popescu, MD; Henry Tsai, MD, and Davood Vafai, MD, into the family. With the addition of these physicians, the Cancer Center will expand medical oncology and infusion services for residents in the east and west valleys and high desert. A decade later, the Eisenhower Schnitzer/Novack Breast Center has grown exponentially. In fact, in just one year the Breast Center provides nearly 30,000 patient exams. Moreover, every department in the Cancer Center has seen increased volume with the growing population, and returning snow birds who choose to receive their cancer services here.
