Strengthening Cultural and Community Ties
By Irene Gostevskyh
Board Member of ROBES
The Russian Old Believers settled in
Willamette Valley in the sixties and have grown
and prospered in the last several decades. Their
population has grown to an estimated seven to
ten thousand people. Families have established
themselves and built businesses that are strong
and known throughout the United States. The
Russian Old Believer community has grown all
throughout the Northwest, including Alaska,
Canada and Minnesota.
Throughout these years, something has
been needed. A unified non-profit organization
to help the Russian Old Believers sustain their
strengths and beliefs. Many people talked about
it for a long time and wondered how this need
was to be accomplished. Questions came up
but there appeared to be no answers. How do
we come together and inform each other about
what is happening in the community They
asked themselves, how do we build stronger
cultural ties How do we strengthen our sense
Kapi, Frosia, Irene, and Nina discussing issues at a ROBES meeting
Virginia Tech Massacre
How does this relate to our children
Monday April 16, 2007 a young man killed
32 people, him-self, and injured many more.
How does this happen We can ask “What is
this World coming to, is it unsafe to send our
children to school” This is the first such tragic
massacre in American history, but why is it
happening more and more What about the
future
Just a year ago there was a man that came in
to an Amish facility, shot and killed students. We
are NOT immune to what happens in this world.
The reports say that the shooter was a loner,
depressed and may have had psychological
issues. Unfortunately some of this sounds all
too common nowadays. The shooter was barely
an adult. Are we paying attention to our youth
of community Where do we begin
All of these questions seemed to permeate
throughout the people and finally something
happened. Russian Old Believer Enhancement
Services (ROBES), the first Russian Old
Believer non profit was formed. These diligent
community members worked hard and achieved
a goal that has been floating around for years.
Wonderful things began to happen!
Long established community members
came together and shared their visions for the
Old Believer. Here they realized they were
not alone and were inspired to make these
unattainable goals a true possibility. The more
ideas came together, the more resources sprang
up. Dedicated individuals each contributed and
developed ideas into projects and real things
happened like this first official Russian Old
Believer Newspaper!
The Newspaper is not the only thing that
has cropped up. The Youth Education group is
in the process of formulating classes for our
young children to learn about the history, bible
and language of the people to help bring back
the understanding and pride of
who we are and why we are who
we are.
There are several other
ROBES groups that are coming
together, beginning conversations
and finding solutions to some of
the missing pieces we have so
longed to find.
A common desire is an Old
Believer Community Center. Have
you ever driven by a huge well
designed community center and
wondered who built the center
Or why the center was built It is a
goal to have a community center
come up for the Old Believers! This
Can we prevent tragedies from happening What
we can do is raise children that are encouraged
to communicate openly, express themselves in
a healthy manner, and socially get along with
other children and adults.
How do we do this Basically by spending
one-on-one time with our children. Being
consistent is the key. Research shows that if we
spend 10min every day just one-on-one, asking
our children that they share their day with us,
children soon begin feeling more secure in their
daily lives knowing that they have that special
time. Your child doesn’t communicate Find
a common interest, or take a step back, many
times it may take longer for younger children
to speak what is on their minds. They may be
thinking in their head but are not quite able to
express what’s on their minds.
could be the hub
of the community
where we would
provide classes
for youth and
adults. It could
have a grand room
for meetings,
for community
d e v e l o p m e n t
and growth. It
would house our
Youth Education,
parenting classes,
sports facility
for sports
Marya facilitating the
teams, driver’s
ROBES meeting
e d u c a t i o n
classes for youth and why not a wine making
class! A community center for the Old Believer
Community is just one of the main goals of the
ROBES non-profit organization.
Russian Old Believer Enhancement Services
has many goals. As this non profit organization
grows and develops, many great endeavors will
be accomplished. We look forward to many
successful programs to enhance families and
individuals from the Russian Old Believer
community.
To have successful programs and events,
many dedicated people need to come together
and support the cause. We are looking for
volunteers and donations to help us with our
goals.
What we cannot do alone we can do
together.
donating please contact us at:
We mold our children to who they are as
people, just as our parents molded us into who
we are today. Healthy, secure children have a
better chance in being more stable adults.
The Satisfaction of Volunteering
We are so excited for the
Believer community. This has
been a long time coming, finally
we have a way to communicate
within our community. As the
population grows we need to
preserve our culture, strive to keep
our resources recycling back into
our community to strengthen our
culture and watch it flourish.
The “TRADITIONAL” has a
strong team of enthusiastic people.
There is room for growth and
expansion. We are thinking BIG!!
We encourage you, the community
with all your fresh, new ideas, to
join us in this journey.
We are so blessed that a nonprofit
Volunteering. What do we
think of when we hear the word
It dawned on me years ago that
volunteering comes in many forms
and this is something that we as
Old Believers are not trained to
do.
Are we giving Yes definitely.
Every Sunday letters are read in
Churches and money is given to
those in need, but should it end
there Giving is more than handing
over some money. It needs to be
in our everyday lives and we are
responsible for showing future
generations how to give, not only
to take and receive. Do children
really know this
I know that I never knew how
important it was to visit the sick,
until I was an adult. Why didn’t
anyone tell me
Warning Signs of Depression in
Children::dolescents
• Sudden changes in behavior
• Aggressive, angry or agitated
behavior
• Increased risk-taking
• Changes in appetite or sleep
patterns
• Lower self-esteem
• Gives up valued possessions
and settles unfinished business
• Withdraws from friends,
activities, and family
• Changes in dress or
appearance
• Significant losses or family
stress
Depression in children is very
similar to depression in adults
with a few exceptions. Children
may not have the vocabulary to
talk about such feelings and so
may express their feelings through
behavior. Younger individuals
with depression are more likely to
show phobias, separation anxiety
disorder, sleep complaints and
behavior problems. Rather than
having a depressed mood, children
are much more likely to have an
irritable mood. Adults often will
not enjoy anything when they are
depressed, but there are usually
some activities children and
adolescents will enjoy doing no
matter how depressed they get. To
say a child has clinically significant
depression (Major Depressive
Disorder), they must have five of
the 9 symptoms listed below to
such a degree that it significantly
interferes with their functioning
for at least two weeks straight.
Through the years and because
of many hardships and experiences
we see and learn what giving and
receiving really is.
• It could be an elderly person
that needs firewood, a meal, or just
someone to talk to.
• It’s mentoring children of a
single mom because she’s too busy
working to support her family and
not able to spend enough time with
her children.
• It’s sewing blankets and knitting
booties for families in and out of
hospitals because of illness; be it
short term or lifelong disability.
• It’s cleaning someone’s home
that may be limited in their health.
• It’s joining the shelters and
helping to feed the homeless.
• It’s taking an elderly person to
their appointment.
• It’s volunteering in youth
education
1. depressed or irritable mood
most of the day, nearly every day
2. markedly diminished interest
or pleasure in all, or almost all
activities most of the day, nearly
every day
3. significant weight loss when
not dieting or failure to make
appropriate weight gains
4. trouble sleeping or too much
sleeping nearly every day
5. restlessness or really slowed
down nearly every day which is
obvious to others
6. fatigue or loss of energy nearly
every day
7. feelings of worthlessness or
excessive guilt nearly every day
8. diminished ability to think or
concentrate, or indecisiveness,
nearly every day
9. recurrent thoughts of death,
suicidal thoughts or suicide
attempts
Although it is not one of the
criteria, some physical symptoms
are very, very common in
depression. Headaches are one of
these. About 10% of children have
severe headaches at least once a
month. However 40% of girls with
depression have severe headaches.
The same does not hold true for
boys.
Some External Signs of Depression
in Children and Adolescents:
• Preschool or young
elementary age: The child
might look serious or vaguely
sick. He might be less bouncy or
spontaneous. While other children
would become tearful or irritable
when frustrated, this child may
show these states spontaneously.
• It’s volunteering for fundraisers
for great causes.
We also need to remember
how we came to America. It was
because of volunteers. It was
because of people that wanted
to make a difference in someone
else’s life and therefore making it
possible for us to have what we
have today.
It is our turn to make a difference.
It is our turn to volunteer.
We may not reap rewards
and make a difference right
away but one by one we will
make a difference in our future
generations.
God has created us and we all
have a gift to give. We all have a
shoulder to lean on.
The best and most rewarding
feeling you can ever have is when
you made a difference in someone’s
life.
He may say negative things
about himself and may be selfdestructive.
• Older elementary school
through adolescence: The
adolescent may present with
academic decline, disruptive
behavior, and problems with
friends. Sometimes one can also
see aggressive behavior, irritability
and suicidal talk. The parent may
say that the adolescent hates
himself and everything else.
The Minnesota Minute
By Marina Eyman
Here in the pristine prairie
the snow is glistening and its 30
degrees. Yes its April, but this is
Minnesota. We have snow half the
year and mosquitoes the other half.
Ok, let’s not dwell on the negative.
I want to share the good news about
the growing population of Russian
Old Believers in our area.
Some facts:
There are approximately 150
families in Minnesota.
Russian Old Believer children make
up 25% of the student body at Win-
E-Mac School.
There is a Russian Language
Program in place for our children,
during the school day.
Imagine Woodburn 40 years
ago. The Oregonians were
wondering who these people were.
The Russians and their bright colors
and long beards. That’s us, here in
Minnesota in 2007. Sharing with
the locals who we are and what we
stand for.
The elders of the community
are appreciative of the women
and girls in their long dresses,
reminding them of the days of ‘ol.
The teachers appreciate when kids
hold each other accountable during
Lent, telling on each other when
there is someone who appears to be
breaking Lent. Or like my daughter,
who single-handedly stopped a class
full of kids from singing along with
the teacher and her guitar, because
it’s Lent.
It’s all about learning to coexist,
informing teachers and
professionals about the ways of
the Russians and the importance of
preserving that which is crucial to
the survival of our community.
Oh and about the weather check
back with me in a couple of days,
who knows, it may be 70 degrees
by tomorrow, Minnesota is known
for extreme weather changes. Come
see us.
AROUND THE HOUSE
Home-made vs. Store-bought
By Marina Eyman, Licensed Massage
Therapist
Remember when we were growing up, and
we would always eat healthy and wholesome
Russian food And now, a lot of us parents
look for the fastest way to make a meal. We are
on the run and looking for short cuts. The first
short cut may involve Taco Bell and the second
may be a quick microwavable treat at home.
I remember when I was a kid, I could not wait
to try my first TV dinner. I used to daydream
that when I grew up, I would have fancy foods
like Oreos and frozen dinners in my fridge, or
to try hot lunch at school just once. Now, as a
mother of 3 girls, you could not pay me to fill
my home with such junk food. I worry about my
girls and the foods they eat.
The reasons for switching to healthy homemade
foods are many. The most obvious reason
is the fact that foods made in your kitchen are
made with prayer.
Here are a few more incentives:
Home grown sunflower seeds, when roasted
make a great, salt-free snack. It’s the trademark
of the Russians to sit in circles and crack seeds.
Sweet corn, boiled or barbequed tastes better
then any corn dog I have ever tasted.
Tomatoes, canned in salsa or sauce, yum.
Store bought sauce contains 230 mg of sodium.
The list goes on and on. All homegrown
goods like berries and veggies can be turned into
something wonderful, without the hormones,
chemicals, or preservatives that harm our health.
It just takes a little bit of patience and a lot of
love.
ASK ANNA
By: Anna Snegirev
Question: My husband drinks soda and energy
drinks at work throughout the day to keep going.
How bad are they and what are alternatives
Answer: The biggest problem with sodas
and energy drinks is that they are considered a
diuretic. The acid in soda pop takes calcium out
of your bones. Drinking them during summer
or with alcohol is especially bad, that is when
dehydration can set in. By the time a person
feels thirsty, he/she has waited too long and
dehydration has set in.The more the person is
dehydrated, the more fatigued he will feel and
will want to drink more energy drinks and soda,
therefore the cycle continues….
Caffeine is a nervous system irritant, not
to mention addictive. Sugar free sodas/energy
drinks are no better. The aspartame has been
demonstrated in mice to be very addictive; then
they craved more of these same beverages, some
of these mice actually developed small holes in
kidneys and brain. Basically, you would need
to drink 1 ½ cups of water for every 1 cup of
caffeinated beverage that was robbed from your
body for you to function properly.
“Emergen-C” made by Alacer is one of
my favorites for hydration and energy. It
supplies the body with vitamins, minerals, and
ASK MRS. MOM
Q. I have a grease spot on my dress - what can
I do
A. Apply liquid dish detergent or Stanley
Degreaser to grease spot. Wash as usual.
Sprinkle cornstarch over the stain, let sit for
a few minutes then brush off. The cornstarch
absorbs the grease and brushes off.
Soak on Oxyclean and hot water for about
1/2 hour and then wash as usual.
Q. How do I get permanent marker off appliances
and countertops
A. Try using rubbing alcohol on a paper towel.
Q. Help! My whites turned pink!
A. Color-run removers can be purchased.
(Follow directions).
You may also be able to remove accidental dyes
by bleaching them with 20 volume strength
hydrogen peroxide. Mix 1 part to 6 parts water
and soak for 30 minutes.
*Did you know*
• After peeling or chopping garlic, rub your
hands on stainless steel to remove that garlic
smell!
• Dry mustard will remove onion smell from
hands and cutting boards!
• Pesky fruit fly tip: Here’s a good way to get
rid of those pesky fruit flies around the house
without using harmful chemicals. You will need
a spray bottle with an adjustable spray-head. Fill
the bottle with rubbing alcohol and adjust the
spray head so that it sprays a fine mist. When
you spray the fruit flies, the rubbing alcohol will
not kill them but it will knock them out so that
they fall onto the floor where you can sweep
them up. Doesn’t work as good as insecticide,
but then again, you won’t be poisoning your
family and yourself either.
• Broken Glass: Use a dry cotton ball to pick
up little broken glass pieces of glass- the fibers
catch ones you can’t see!
electrolytes; take 1-2 packets in 6-8oz of water
on an empty stomach for maximum energy,
take as needed. This product is available in
mainstream stores,Wal-Mart usually has it on
sale for $8-$9.
Essential oils could be added to your bottled
water. Add about 3-4 drops in 8-12oz of water.
I caution you strongly to only use oils that have
been approved specifically made for internal
use.
Licorice root drops could also be added to
water. It has a mildly sweet taste, and is an
adaptagen so it could help build energy without
wearing out your adrenals. However, people
with high blood pressure should not take it;
you should not take it for longer than 6wks
consistently.
Another great thirst quencher and a mild
detoxifier is Innerlight’s green drink. Just add
2. Meanwhile, in 2-quart saucepan, melt butter
over medium-high heat. Cook bell pepper and
onions in butter, stirring occasionally, until
crisp-tender; remove from heat. Stir in milk,
soup, basil and pepper.
3. Place 4 noodles in baking dish. Top with
about 1 cup of the soup mixture, half of the
cottage cheese, 1 1/2 cups of the chicken, 2/3
cup mozzarella cheese and 1/3 cup Cheddar
cheese. Repeat layers once, starting with
noodles. Place remaining 4 noodles over top.
Top with remaining soup mixture, mozzarella
cheese and Cheddar cheese. Sprinkle Parmesan
cheese over top.
4. Bake uncovered 50 to 55 minutes or until
bubbly and hot in center. Let stand 15 minutes
before cutting.
extra lemons, some stevia (natural sweetener),
and you have a tasty green lemonade! Shaklee
has a wonderful product called Energy Tea
which comes in little packets. It could be added
right into your water bottle.
MAY HOLIDAYS
May 17
The Ascension of the Lord
Forty days after Pascha, Jesus Christ
appeared to the disciples and told the disciples
to go into the world and spread the truth about
his resurrection, then baptize those who believe
and they will be saved. They were told to stay
in Jerusalem, and await the Holy-spirit to come
down upon them. At this time, Jesus blessed the
disciples, and Ascended to Heaven.
May 21
Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the
Theologian
The miracle that occurred on this day
happened when John was over one hundred
years old. He took seven of his disciples, ordered
them to dig a grave in the form of a cross. John
then went down alive into his grave and was
buried. His body was never found, when his
faithful followers dug up the grave and on May
8 of every year, dust rises up from his grave,
healing the sick from various diseases.
May 22
Relics of St Nikolas, The Wonderworker
St. Nikolas’s body was transported from
Lycia to Italy, during the year 1087. Many
miracles occurred through the touching of St.
Nikolas’s relics, and myrrh abundantly flowed
from them. This was also the day that St. Nikolas
restored sight to the blinded King Stephan.
Relics of Saints and Martyrs have always
been holy and many miracles have occurred
because of this.
“So it was, as they were burying a man, that
suddenly they spied a band of raiders; and they
put the man in the tomb of Elisha; and when
the man was let down and touched the bones of
Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet.” 2 Ki
Pentecost Day of the Holy Trinity
May 28
Day of the Holy Spirit
The Pentecost Day of the Holy Trinity
occurs fifty days after the celebration of
the Glorious Resurrection. Trinity Sunday
celebrates the Christian doctrine of the Trinity,
the three persons of God: the Father, Son and
Holy Spirit.
These holidays commemorate the descent
of the Holy Spirit on the heads of the Apostles
infusing them with the mandate to go forth into
the world and preach the Gospel. (Acts 2, 1-
Candles in Church
Why do we put candles in Church What do candles represent in Church
1. The candle or lampada represent the light of Christ. The true light. There is no way for salvation
except through our Lord Jesus Christ.
2. It represents our burning love to who the candle is for.
3. If the candle has no meaning(meaning if it is just a piece of string and a ball of wax to the person
who puts it up, then surely it is a piece of string and a ball of wax to God, Mother of God, and the
Saints). But if it represents your prayer then it is like Incense before God who sees your prayer.
has been extremely successful in providing
families with the ability to purchase low
Therefore creating a system of interchange
within our community. The Russian Thriftstore
has been run by the Youth Group and they are
now asking people in the community to join
WILLAMETTE ZONE: FISHING
Adapted by Kopy Vshivkoff from
Oregon Department of Fish and
Wildlife website
STOCKING SCHEDULE: South
Willamette Watershed District:
ODFW (Oregon Department of
Fish and Wildlife) was scheduled
to stock Alton Baker Canal, Blue
River Reservoir, Cottage Grove
Reservoir, Detroit Reservoir,
Dorena Reservoir, Dexter
Reservoir, EE Wilson Pond, Foster
Reservoir, Junction City Pond,
Roaring River Park Pond, Timber
Linn Lake and Waverly Lake with
Rainbow Trout the week of April 16.
Detroit Reservoir was scheduled
to receive 20,000 legal size trout.
In the North Willamette Watershed
Benson Lake, Bethany Pond,
Blue Lake, Commonwealth Lake,
Dorman Pond, Haldeman Pond,
Harriet Lake, Hartman Pond,
Henry Hagg Lake, Mt Hood Pond,
Roslyn Lake, and Trojan Pond
were scheduled to be stocked the
week of April 16th. As a special
note, Timber Lake will be added
back into the stocking schedule in
the near future.
EE WILSON and JUNCTION
CITY PONDS: ODFW scheduled
to stock the week of April 9 with
legal, larger and trophy size trout.
CLACKAMAS RIVER: Bank
anglers can find access to the river
in the Gladstone/Cross Park area,
at Carver near the mouth of Clear
Creek, along Clackamas River Rd,
at Barton Park, at Bonnie Lure
Park, at McIver Park near Dog
Creek, and from the McIver Park
boat ramp on up to River Mill
Dam. Boaters should be aware
that early winter high water events
have made changes to the river that
could surprise unsuspecting boat
anglers. Be very cautious of debris
as well, since recent high water has
likely deposited trees and logs into
the river.
BOYS SECTION
COLUMBIA RIVER: From the
Dalles Dam to the John Day Dam,
sturgeon retention has been closed
at midnight, Wednesday, March 28
and is effective through the end of
the year. Catch-and-release angling
for sturgeon in this stretch of the
Columbia is allowed throughout
the remainder of the year, except
during May 1 through July 31,
when sturgeon angling is prohibited
from the west end of the grain silo
located near Rufus upstream to
John Day Dam, to protect oversize
spawning sturgeon. Catch-andrelease
sturgeon angling in this
sanctuary area re-opens August 1.
Detroit and Foster have been
stocked with trout again by ODFW
the week of April 16 Dorena
Reservoir was scheduled to be
stocked the week of April 9 with
6,300 rainbow trout.
EAGLE CREEK: Angling effort
has been very low and the catch
rate has slowed considerably as
the winter run comes to close.
Be prepared with both bright and
subtle colors of jigs or spinners.
Anglers may also have success
with sand shrimp or small egg
clusters and yarn.
The most popular spots to try
include the Bonnie Lure area, the
water above and below the lower
fish ladder, Eagle Fern Park, and
up near the hatchery. Much of the
creek meanders through private
property so pay attention to your
location and secure permission
before fishing from private property.
HENRY HAGG LAKE: Trout
fishing is fair to slow, better along
the banks than from boat. Anglers
may have success using white or
yellow power bait for trout and
night crawlers for bass.
Roaring River Park Pond, Timber
Linn Lake, and Waverly Lake in the
Albany area have been scheduled
to be stocked again
with rainbow trout
the week of April 16.
To Bee or Not To Bee
By Kopiy Cam
New study shows that cell phone
uses are partially attributed to the
growing decline of bee population
throughout America. Pollination
remains bleak, atleast in the short
term longevity. This greatly affects
many farmers, particularly berry
growers in the Willamette Valley
and adds to the already growing
concern of market stability. With
labor rates on the rise and the fierce
competition overseas, the profit
margins continue to shrink.
Another factor to blame is the
winter freeze that swept through in
‘07. However, most bee colonies
sustained the cold except areas that
dipped into the teens... Ironically,
high humidity and colony
movements also put a lot of stress
on bees.
Women’s Soccer
by Milania Basargin
It all started October 04’the first
time the women’s soccer team had their
first game. We were inspired by my
brother’s soccer team. My sister and I
thought it would be fun to start our own
Russian soccer team. We got ten ladies
together, and started playing at Salem
Indoor as the “Chickas.” We didn’t start
as well as we thought we would. We
would play against other teams in the
community every Tuesday evening.
These teams were either high
school or college soccer players, so
we had a long way to go, but we didn’t
give up. We would play 8 games a
season; we were last place every season.
We practiced every Sunday morning at
Woodburn High School and slowly we
started scoring more points, and actually started
having fun. A couple of years later we ended up
placing 4 th that season. That was the last time
we played in Salem.
A new indoor soccer stadium was opening
up in Hubbard. Since Hubbard was closer to
most of us we thought we would start fresh
somewhere else. Our team was the first Women
Division to sign up at Shootout in Hubbard. We
picked out our best players and started with ten
of us. Some started new, but most of us have
been playing since the beginning. We changed
our name to “Knockouts.”
The first season at Shootout we placed finals,
and played against a team from Woodburn. We
were tied and played 2 minute overtime. Still
being tied, we had to go to shootouts, and
for the first time ever we WON!! That was
the most exciting game, and the best we ever
played. That’s when we decided that this will be
our original team. We are in our fifth
season and won two of those seasons.
It is almost four years since we started
out in Salem losing every game, to now
winning most of them.
We still play every Tuesday night,
and doing awesome, tying our first
game, and losing our second this
season. There are ten different teams
playing this season with two different
divisions, lower division and higher
division. Five teams on each, our
team is one of the five on the higher
division.
If you are not doing anything on a
Tuesday night, come see us play. It
gets us more motivated when there are
fans cheering us on. You can call the
FISHING
Continued from Page 7
SANDY RIVER: Anglers can access the river
from many parks including Lewis and Clark,
Dabney, Oxbow, and Dodge. Bank access is
also available to the Cedar Creek area at the
Sandy Hatchery. When fishing the Oxbow Park
area, remember that there is no angling from a
floating device upstream from a point that is 200
feet below the Oxbow Park boat ramp.
Collection/recycling receptacles for discarded
or lost fishing gear can now be found along the
Sandy River. Any tangled fishing line or old
gear can be collected and disposed of in these
canisters as an effort to maintain a healthy,
clean Sandy River. Please use nearby garbage
cans for any other types of trash.
Timber Linn, Freeway, and Waverly lakes in the
Albany area were scheduled to be stocked by
ODFW the week of April 9.
WALTER WIRTH LAKE and WALLING
POND in Salem were also scheduled to being
stocked by ODFW with trout the week of April
but increasing numbers of spring Chinook caught
throughout the Willamette with fish taken from
the lower Multnomah Channel all the way up
to Oregon City.. The Sellwood/Milwaukie area
is still one of the most consistently productive
sections of river.
Please note that the Willamette River,
including Multnomah Channel, is open for the
retention of sturgeon under recently modified
rules. Effective February 1, 2007 the retention
of sturgeon is allowed Thursday, Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday of each week until July
31, 2007. Monday through Wednesday of each
week angling for sturgeon is allowed, but on a
catch and release basis only. Please also note
that anglers are limited to the use of only one
single-point barbless hook while angling for
sturgeon. Sturgeon anglers have used fresh
smelt or herring as effective bait.
