鳳 眼 藍 Water Hyacinth (Eichhorinia crassipes) 是 一 種 常 見 的 水 生 植 物 , 擁 有 漂
亮 的 名 字 , 外 型 亦 美 艷 非 常 , 紫 藍 色 的 花 朵 花 正 中 有 一 菱 形 的 黃 色 斑 點 , 尤 如 鳳
凰 的 眼 睛 , 因 而 得 名 。 亦 由 於 鳳 眼 藍 花 朵 漂 亮 奪 目 , 又 容 易 繁 殖 , 原 本 只 生 長 在
南 美 洲 熱 帶 和 亞 熱 帶 地 區 的 鳳 眼 藍 , 已 引 進 世 界 多 個 國 家 作 園 藝 觀 賞 之 用 。 在 香
港 , 一 些 荒 置 魚 塘 , 甚 至 溝 渠 等 淡 水 水 域 都 可 找 到 鳳 眼 藍 的 蹤 影 。 但 不 要 以 為 這
樣 就 可 以 輕 易 觀 賞 到 此 美 艷 的 鳳 凰 , 因 為 鳳 眼 藍 的 花 朵 只 有 一 天 的 壽 命 。
Water Hyacinth (Eichhorinia crassipes) is a common aquatic plant. It has a
beautiful name as well as a charming appearance. In the middle of the purple
blue flower is a yellow, diamond-shaped spot that resembles the eye of a
legendary phoenix. Because of its beauty and easy propagation, the South
American tropical and subtropical plant has been widely introduced into
many countries for ornamental use. In Hong Kong, the species can be
found in freshwater including abandoned fishponds and even gullies. But
it is actually not easy to spot the flower, as each blooms for only a day.

眼 藍 是 雨 久 花 科 (Pontederiaceae)
鳳 眼 蓮 屬 (Eichhornia) 的 多 年 生
漂 浮 性 草 本 植 物 。 整 株 高 30-50 厘 米 , 葉
片 寬 大 , 形 態 獨 特 , 像 一 個 漂 浮 在 水 面 上
的 蓮 座 , 所 以 又 叫 「 浮 水 蓮 花 」。 鳳 眼
藍 最 特 別 的 是 它 的 葉 柄 , 葉 柄 內 裡 佈 滿 氣
洞 , 使 它 能 漂 浮 於 水 中 。 更 有 趣 的 是 葉 柄
形 態 會 隨 著 個 體 數 量 不 同 而 有 所 變 化 。 當
鳳 眼 藍 生 在 稀 疏 的 族 群 中 , 葉 柄 內 的 氣 洞
會 充 滿 氣 , 此 時 觀 看 葉 柄 就 像 一 個 個 浮 在
水 面 的 葫 蘆 , 所 以 鳳 眼 藍 又 有 「 水 葫 蘆 」
的 稱 號 。 可 是 , 當 它 生 在 擠 擁 的 族 群 時 ,
葉 柄 則 會 慢 慢 變 回 瘦 長 的 模 樣 , 讓 出 更 多
空 間 給 「 同 類 」, 十 分 有 趣 !

floating herb of the genus
Eichhornia from the
Pontederiaceae family. The plant is
30–50 cm high, with broad leaves
and a unique form that resembles a
floating lotus seat on water. Hence it
is also called “floating lotus”. Its leaf
stalk is special as it is filled with air
chambers that allow it to float on
water. More interestingly, the leaf
stalk varies in form according to the
number of individual plants. When
it is among a sparse population, the
air chambers are filled with air and
the stalk resembles a bottle gourd,
thus earning it another name “water
bottle gourd”. However, when it is
squeezed within a dense population,
the stalk becomes slim to allow
more space for its neighbours. How
amazing!

鳳 眼 藍 最 引 人 注 目 之 處 莫 過 於 它 的 花
朵 , 每 朵 花 有 6 片 紫 藍 色 花 瓣 , 最 上 方 的
一 片 花 瓣 顏 色 比 其 餘 5 片 深 , 正 中 間 更 有
一 塊 菱 形 的 黃 色 斑 點 , 遠 看 尤 如 鳳 凰 的 眼
睛 一 樣 耀 眼 , 所 以 才 有 「 鳳 眼 藍 」 之 稱 。
每 年 6 月 至 11 月 是 鳳 眼 藍 的 花 期 , 但 是 要
觀 賞 這 顆 鳳 凰 的 眼 睛 並 不 容 易 , 因 為 花 朵
只 有 一 天 的 壽 命 。 早 上 還 正 綻 放 的 花 朵 ,
到 了 傍 晚 時 分 , 花 軸 部 分 會 向 下 垂 , 慢 慢
枯 萎 , 代 表 著 花 的 壽 命 已 走 到 盡 頭 。
鳳 眼 藍 更 全 株 都 可 以 入 藥 , 有 清 熱 、 解
暑 等 功 效 。 由 於 它 還 可 作 餵 養 家 畜 及 家 禽
的 飼 料 , 從 前 的 農 民 亦 會 大 量 種 植 鳳 眼
藍 。 無 論 外 表 或 用 途 , 鳳 眼 藍 可 說 全 身 是
寶 , 可 惜 的 是 當 一 些 地 方 引 進 鳳 眼 藍 後 ,
由 於 它 具 有 超 強 繁 殖 能 力 , 加 上 在 引 進 地
方 沒 有 天 敵 制 衡 它 , 它 們 會 快 速 生 長 , 有
時 甚 至 會 覆 蓋 整 個 水 域 , 造 成 航 道 堵 塞 ,
更 甚 的 是 會 遮 擋 陽 光 及 吸 取 水 中 氧 氣 , 影
響 其 他 水 中 原 生 物 種 。
The most eye-catching part of Water
Hyacinth is its flowers. Each flower
has six purple blue petals, the
uppermost of which is darker than
the other five. In the middle is a
diamond-shaped yellow spot, which
from a distance shines like the eye
of the legendary phoenix. Hence
the Chinese name “Blue Phoenix
Eye”. The flowers bloom from June
to November each year. But it is
difficult to spot individual flowers
as each lasts for only a day. The
flowers open in the morning, but by
evening they droop
and wither, at the
end of their brief
lives.
The whole plant
is medicinal and
can ease summer
heat. It can also be
used as livestock feed. In the past,
farmers grew large amounts of Water
Hyacinth, because every single part
is full of treasure. Unfortunately, it
grows rapidly, and without natural
enemies to control its population,
Water Hyacinths readily cover
water bodies and cause navigation
problems in places where it is
introduced. Worse still, it may block
sunlight and deplete oxygen in the
water, impacting native species.
