SOUTHWESTERN STUDENT
GOVERNMENT
THE STUDENT VOICE SINCE 1924
READY FOR A GREAT YEAR
in 2010-2011!
Formed by Southwestern’s first student
body on December 4 th , 1924, the student
govern-ment is a way for all students to
give ideas on improvements and to organize
and coordinate activities and act on the
ideas.
The Student Body President is also the
leader of the Student Council, which
includes student government officers,
presidents of all clubs, and the Head
Proctor.
Student Government allows students to
participate in leadership opportunities, and
gives students a place to ask questions and
give any ideas they have for the school.
The student body chooses the President
each spring, and he forms a cabinet. The
Student body President for 2010-2011 is
NICHOLAS BROIHIER.
Nick was born in the United States but has
traveled most of his life. He has lived in
different US States, England, Puerto Rico,
and Colombia. Since he has lived in
different places he has a first-hand
experience of what it’s like to be in a
different culture. While living in Puerto Rico
and Columbia, he learned to speak Spanish.
This will be Nick’s second year as a boarding
student at Southwestern.
Nick has a home in Southern California by
the beach. He likes to surf and spend a lot
of time in the sun. He plays varsity
volleyball and soccer but places his
education first. He has participated in many
school activities, and helped with last year’s
Student Government.
Nick asks you to e-mail him during the
summer or any time in the school year if
you’ve ideas on activities, questions on
student life, or any comments on how
Student Government may make your time at
Southwestern better.

“I am from Seoul, Korea. I have been here
five years. I want to learn from mistakes of
previous years and perfect this year.”

secretary, I want to take your ideas and
blend them into good plans for 2010-2011.”

some ideas to help make this year as

Commuters’ Rep. GWEN MATHIAS
“I’m from Los Angeles. As the day students’
representative, I’d like to hear the thoughts
of our commuters to work with us all.”

CRUZ
“I’d like to make the water fountains flow
with punch, but that’s impossible. Instead,
I will give junior high ideas to our leaders.”
We’ll be ready and eager to greet you at our
family barbecue September 20 th , and to
work with you for a happy school year.
