THE SOUTHWESTERN ACADEMY
TOUR GUIDE PROGRAM
SPHERE seeks to improve student health
and your academic success through
education about vital health issues, focusing
on nutrition, substance abuse, and sexual
education from trained peer counselors.
SPHERE’s coordinators and health educators
for 2010-2011 will be selected from student
applications that will be collected early in
the school year. The students involved
receive information and instruction in how
to counsel classmates, a rewarding
opportunity in helping others.
Science department teachers help as faculty
advisors to SPHERE, along with counseling
professionals from the community.
A message from the SPHERE team:
We want to introduce ourselves as SPHERE
volunteers, and invite those interested to
consider joining our group..
Our job is to provide you and everyone on
campus with a better place to learn by
exchanging information related to nutrition
education, eating disorder awareness.
human sexuality problems and sexually
transmitted infection issues, and on drug,
tobacco, and alcohol abuse.
We promise we will try our best to give
information about and advise you on those
topics mentioned above.
Feel free to have confidential discussions
with any of the SPHERE members in your
free time.
The SPHERE group is dedicated to bettering
the student body and helping wherever
needed.
Finally, we just want to wish you the best of
luck this school year. Enjoy studying at
Southwestern!
THE TOUR GUIDES are all student
volunteers, approximately ten students who
wish to gain valuable experience and earn
community service recognition by providing
tours to campus visitors, including
prospective students and their families.
Students also gain experience in public
speaking, leadership, program development,
and interacting with various cultures. They
develop skills in time management and
organization.
Tour Guide members are also involved in a
variety of interactive meetings and oncampus
events and activities throughout the
school year.
Southwestern Academy Tour Guide
members include students who are fluent in
not only English, but also a variety of other
languages.
The Tour Guide Program encourages its
members to become an integral part of the
Southwestern campus, to learn more about
the rich history and traditions of the school,
and to support the campus culture and
community.
Southwestern Academy Tour Guides are a
group of highly respected leaders on
campus, who proudly represent their school
in everything they do.
Visit the Veronda Place admissions offices
and talk with any of the staff there to find
out how you can apply to participate in this
campus group. New members will be
welcomed at the beginning of the school
year and at other times throughout the
term.
