Year 7 - 12 Sport YRS 7-12 ATHLETIC CARNIVAL On 5 June Years 7-12 travelled out to Barden Ridge (also known as the fridge) on a day where reports were suggesting a “weather event” to come through with high winds and heavy rain. We decided to go ahead with the hope we could get most of the carnival completed before the weather came in. Prayers were answered, with the rain holding off until the very last race at 2:30pm. Students and teachers were all in good spirits, especially considering the cold weather. We had a high participation rate in most events, mainly due to students wanting to keep warm I think! Congratulations to BLUE house for being the champion house for the athletics carnival. Well done to all blue house captains and their members. Mr Steve Moore BOYS SOCCER GALA DAY - Thursday 7 June Due to the terrible weather, the competition was moved to the new five a side fields at Endeavour High School. This being the case, we had to split each team in two and field two smaller sides. The smaller fields did not help our sides playing style with fast players unable to use their speed against other teams. We were also missing a couple of very capable players through injury. All teams played well and displayed good sportsmanship on the field. The Under 15 A team lost a very tough semi final and were disappointed to not make the final. Overall SGCS was awarded runners up in both the Under 15 and Open competition. Not an ideal carnival due to the poor weather, but overall, it was a successful day. Well done to all the boys, they played. NETBALL GALA DAY UNDER 15’s On Monday 18 June, eleven bleary eyed but keen students (and one teacher) gathered outside the front of the School at 6:30am to make the bus journey to Penrith, where temperatures of 5°C awaited us. The girls, ranging from Year 7 to Year 9, were all very eager to complete their warm up in preparation for their first game and to help combat the cold weather on their bare legs. Throughout the day, the girls demonstrated exceptional athleticism, teamwork and energy as they represented the school with incredible spirit and pride. It didn't take long before the temperature heated up and so did the competition. The girls played very well, with a win over Carinya Christian School and narrow losses to Wycliffe, Chalton and Maitland. The day was very successful and I want to extend my congratulations to the girls on the way they played and the manner in which they conducted themselves. Also, a huge thanks to the parents made the trip out to Penrith to support and encourage the girls. With most of the team still eligible for the Under 15’s next year, I look forward seeing what we are capable of. Students and teachers participated so Christians in persecuted countries can receive Bibles to encourage them through their suffering. God blessed us with fine weather and generous hearts. A mufti day with a gold coin donation, a bake stall at recess (with cakes made and donated by Year 12) and a sausage sizzle at lunch, along with many generous donations raised $1142.00, which will purchase 103 Bibles. Students and teachers have also been praying for Christians being persecuted overseas. Thank you to everyone who gave money, prayed, helped and served. Together we have been able to bless Christians overseas with a necessity that we take for granted. Grace Murray Prefect and SRC Chairperson
