KAIA Development Phases The existing infrastructure and facilities require major upgrade to meet increasing demand and raise passenger service levels. The GACA Master Plan was agreed in 2007, to develop KAIA in three (3) Phases: •Phase 1 (ongoing) : Capacity 30 million passengers, by 2014 •Phase 2 : Capacity 43 million passengers, by 2025 •Phase 3 (Ultimate) : Capacity 80 passengers, by 2035 4
The Master Plan Approach The Master Plan vision is to create a state-of-the-art passenger terminal complex, essentially a new airport, developed in three phases. But it is more than just new infrastructure. The intention is to transform the passenger experience, to become a regional leader, a hub for growth, set a high standard for good service and sustainability. Long-term traffic forecasts, to 2035, for both passengers and cargo, with a range of scenarios. Private sector involvement and support, to provide increased services and commercial culture, e.g. Cargo, Airport City. 5 Dar Al-Handasah were appointed in 2007 as Construction Manager for Phase 1 Works
