Dance(tonians)
Dance(tonians) held our April dance at Arbor Hall on the
9th. To welcome spring, the tables were decorated with
vases of blue and white flowers. We had a nice turnout
to welcome John Bramhall as Dance(tonians') newest
DJ. John played a nice selection of music, with many
contemporary songs and upbeat rhythms. The floor was
filled with enthusiastic dancers, many of whom stayed
'til closing time. Thanks, John.
For intermission we had our usual gift certificates to
raffle. In addition, Barb Bramhall donated a lovely vase of flowers that she had arranged.
We ended intermission with the Dance(tonians) board members leading off a
snowball dance. It's a nice way to meet new people.
Remember, next month is Dance Fair, so we'll see you all at Hara Arena on the 14th.
Swing ‘n’ Sway
Our annual meeting is coming up in May. It will be held
during the break of the dance on the 28th.
We're still looking for some volunteers to fill spots on the
board, which will be open, due to term limits. Those spots
are president and secretary. A trustee spot also needs to
be filled. Please consider serving. Yes, it involves some
time commitment. Think about it, then get in touch with
one of the present board members listed on Page 1.
‘76 Dance Club
The April dance of the 76
Dance Club was held at Arbor
Hall on April 2 nd , 2005.
The dance was attended by
137 dancers. We really appreciate
the attendance of our
faithful members and guests.
Tony Rimkus provided the
music for everyone’s dancing
enjoyment. Preceding the dance, the annual membership
meeting was held. The proposed changes to the
Code of Regulations were approved, and new board
members were elected. (See the cover for names and
phone numbers.)
Entertainment during the intermission was be provided
by Peter Witecki and Molly Murphy from the Arthur
Murray studio. They performed a crisply-executed
ChaCha, a romantic rumba, and a scintillating samba,
with breaks between each dance for costume changes.
Molly looked gorgeous in her red, midnight blue, and
orange costumes. The attendees were very appreciative
of the routines and rewarded the dancers with an extended
round of applause. We were also glad that a
number of members of Molly’s family were able to
watch the routines, including her Mom and Dad.
The next 76 Club dance will be held on the May 7 th ,
2005. The dance will start at 8 PM, as usual, and the
dance music will be provided by Tony Rimkus. We
look forward to seeing you there, and please bring along
a friend.
We are all deeply saddened by Roberta Bonekowski's departure from this life on April 8 after a long and painful illness. Roberta was universally
known and loved as a special, kind, loving and thoughtful person. Roberta became a part of the dancing community in 1989. Her first exposure
to dancing was the Christopher Club where she met many dancing friends. She became an instant friend to those she met. Eventually Roberta
gained exposure to the broader ballroom dance community and began taking lessons with Bernice and the Dayton Ballroom Dance Club.
Roberta met her husband Nick at the Christopher Club in 1998 and they were married the next year. Her love of dancing never ceased--even
when she was too ill to dance, she would attend the dances. Roberta also loved flowers and her yard is filled with their beauty--matching the
beauty of her soul. Roberta was an excellent school teacher and was highly regarded by her students many of whom stayed in touch with her
after her retirement. As a Christian her faith and commitment to God was strong and she manifested her faith in life with those with whom she
come in contact with. Roberta was always supportive and listened when others were hurting even when she was in pain. When her illness began
giving her severe pain even her close friends never heard her complain. She always rose above her situation and continued the best she could.
Even to the end she remained strong. Roberta will be greatly missed in our community. (Submitted by Ken and Katherine Johnson)
