Congregation members: are you ready for
“Something Else”
As part of our work in developing the best educational offerings at Grace, and in following the Council’s direction...the Education
Board has begun putting together a new way of thinking about faith formation. Here are some highlights and general descriptions
of what will be offered this fall. More information will continue to come, which will include schedules of when each
ministry will be offered.
Purpose:
To give congregation members and family units the opportunity to “unpack” their faith through various campus style
venues. Sunday School is not being eliminated. Rather, it is being expanded to meet broader congregational needs.
To provide faith education tools to parents and encourage them to be further involved in their child’s faith education.
To provide thought provoking discussion ideas and tools to understand what faith means to individuals and families.
To provide tools to bring faith into our homes throughout the week and not just on Sunday morning.
FAITH STEPS
BIBLE STUDY
GODLY PLAY
MISSION
COFFEE TALK
ALL IN ALL
Campus Ministries of “Something Else”
Faith Steps will continue with the same format as the previous years for the families and students involved in
each grade level.
Following the worship text for the week, Bible Study will involve congregation members, first grade and beyond
to advanced seasons of life. The day begins with everybody together, the pastors will teach on the text,
then everybody breaks out into small groups based on grade/age. The hour ends with everyone together
for a group closing.
Following the worship text for the week, Godly Play will involve family units and congregation members who
wish to participate in this option. The hour begins in a large group and introduction to the week’s activity.
Adults will remain to discuss a tool(s) parents/members can use in their home to guide them in unpacking
faith. Children will move to other areas of the church to actively engage in the text for the day as it relates
to what the adults are discussing. The hour ends with everyone together for a group closing.
The mission option will involve family units and congregation members who wish to participate in a mission
project. IE: Food packing before Thanksgiving, quilting day, etc. This is an intergenerational activity taking
place during the education hour.
Following the worship text for the week, Coffee Talk pairs with the “Grace Café” in the narthex. There will be
options to discuss the text for the week in a casual coffee hour setting. This is an intergenerational activity
to engage with one another on a deeper level.
All family units and congregation members are invited to participate in the all in all activities! During this time,
we will share a meal and at times, enjoy guest presentations.
Contribute to Our History
The Grace 75 th Anniversary Committee is collecting memorabilia from our past AND present to display for our 75 th Anniversary
Celebration in 2013. They will also be preserved in our historical archives. If you have any pictures, such as
confirmation pictures, group events, etc., news articles, materials that you think would be nice for the church to have and
keep as part of our history we would love to have them. There are the following options: you many donate them to the
church, you may allow us to make a copy of them, or you may just lend them to us for display during our 75 th celebration.
Slips are available to indicate your preference. Please identify who is in the pictures if you can, and what is the
event they were used for. We will be collecting them every last Sunday of the month in the area where coffee is served
in the hall. They may also be dropped off at the church office or given to any committee member at any time. Thank you
very much. We have a wonderful history. Let’s record it.
Why school supplies To the children who receive School
Kits, these supplies mean the difference between getting an
education or not. Public school is usually free, but in the
places where Lutheran World Relief works, even a few required
supplies, like pens and paper, may be more than many
families can afford.
And when parents can only afford to send one of their children
to school, girls rarely get priority…yet the education
level of mothers has the biggest impact on development.
The Waseca Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is
teaming up local churches to assemble 100 backpacks. Grace
Lutheran has been given the charge of providing 100 30 centimeter
rulers. Please add a couple of them to your shopping
cart and bring to the church by September 3 rd .
THANK YOU.
