Plimpton Attic and
the search for
“I always liked Plimpton attic. We had the mummified remains of an Egyptian
female. An alumnus had donated it for the science class some years before, and
when I was here, it was up in the Plimpton attic. I have a snapshot of me next to
the mummy. It was about 5 feet tall, but being as how it was mummified, it was
stiff, and it would stand up if you held it. (When I worked in housekeeping), it
was always fun to put stuff in that Plimpton attic or takes things out of it for Ma
Beaumont or Shirley Powers, because I could go say ‘hi’ to the mummy. What
was the most fun was taking some of the other kids who worked there who didn’t
know about it, and introducing them to it. I continued to work summers here in
college. At that point, there was a younger crop of Tilton day students who
worked for housekeeping, and it was always fun to set them up and scare them
with the mummy!”
