opposition could not let down or they would be picking
the ball out of the back of the net. Equally as talented was
the defensive corps led by keeper Pat Mckeon ’08, Callahan,
center back Kris Brassard ’09, and three-year letter winners
Phil Lee ’08 and Jason LaBranche ’08 on the outside.
With such a challenging schedule, reserve players were a
key to the team’s success. John Bejakian ’09, Troy Morin
’10, Ryan Bromander ’08, Nick Sawicki ’08, Jason Hwang
’09, Joe Delorey ’09, Matt Wrenn ’09 and Keven Meehan
’09 were all solid contributors.
In the playoffs, the Rams garnered the No. 1 seed for
the first time in school history. After defeating a disciplined
and experienced Concord Academy team in front
of a fantastic home crowd, the team had a chance to
avenge one of its two regular-season losses. Going into
the semi-final against Kents Hill School, the Rams knew
they could expect a disciplined and smart defensive
squad. They also knew if they scored first that Kents Hill
would have to open up their game, leaving space for the
Rams to run. With a 3-0 lead at the half, the Rams knew
they were in a great position to go to the final match
again. At the final whistle, the score read 3-1. It was off
to face Providence Country Day School, the nemesis who
felled Tilton in the championship in 2003. After a great
bus ride to Middlesex School, the match was back and
forth but PCD played a solid game and earned a 3-2
victory over a game Tilton side. It was the best season
record in school history, as the team finished 16-3-2 with
the three losses to Kimball Union Academy (Class-B New
England Champions), Kents Hill and Providence
Country Day (Class-C New England Champions).
Brassard, Delorey and Draleau will lead a solid group of
returners into next season as captains for 2008.
BOYS’ JV SOCCER
Boys’ JV soccer had a character-building year. Many of
the boys started preseason in August, getting an early
jump on the season. Once classes began, JV began
following the varsity team for most of its travel around
New England and faced JV teams from much larger
schools than Tilton. Even so, the JV Rams were able to
finish the season 7-9-1. The season saw the JV squad
play Stanstead College, Deerfield Academy, Phillips
Exeter Academy, Proctor Academy, New Hampton
School, Kimball Union Academy and Brewster Academy,
among others.
Leading the team
were captains Connor
Maguire ’09 at
midfield and Marshall
Holzer ’08 anchoring
the defense. Both
young men led the
team through practice
and games, staying
positive through all
the defeats and sharing the celebration during wins. Players
who joined JV for a second year included Lennie Foss ’10
at center back, Jenner Bryan ’10 at midfield, Joe Ott ’08 at
center back, Sasha Gilbert ’10 at outside back, and Alex
Burkland ’09 in net, who earned this year’s Most Improved
Player honors for keeping many balls out of the net.
The team enjoyed the infusion of new talent with
Charlie Goldstein’s ’09 formidable work ethic as striker,
accompanied by the raw talent of Vermonters Tyler
Beauregard ’09 and Scott Willson ’09, who earned this
year’s Most Valuable Player award after leading the team
with goals.
The midfield saw the new faces of Justin Lee ’10, who
scored several beautiful goals; Daniel Jang ’10, who worked
tirelessly; Victor Sanchez-Greca ’09, who played with more
intensity than anyone; Kyle Roberts ’09, who never gave
up; Carey Spanos ’11, whose athletic ability is astounding;
and Alex Jenkins ’09, who played wherever he was needed
without question. The back line was strengthened by the
additions of Alex Tutsch ’09 and Mike Deschene ’11, who
