Pudavaikkadu GMMS is a<br />
Primary Grade school with<br />
classes from Grades 1-5. The<br />
school has a total of 184 students.<br />
This school was allocated to<br />
<strong>Rotary</strong> on 3rd March 2005.<br />
After initial site inspection<br />
and clearing, the designs were<br />
approved in May 2005.<br />
There was diffi culty in getting<br />
people to work in the area and<br />
due to the special circumstances,<br />
the construction work is being<br />
shared by four contractors with<br />
the Lead Club acting as the coordinator<br />
of all the contractors.<br />
The Foundation stone was<br />
laid in mid September and<br />
full mobilization of all four<br />
contractors took place in early<br />
October 2005.<br />
Work commenced and progressed<br />
smoothly till end December<br />
2005. In late December and<br />
almost the whole of January<br />
2006, there was tension in the<br />

The work pace picked up again in February and March and continued<br />
until the local New Year Holidays in mid April 2006.<br />
The months of June and July saw progress at a very good pace but<br />
unfortunately the escalation of violence in the area in early August<br />
caused a drastic reduction in the workforce.<br />
In mid August the site was vacated on safety concerns as the area<br />
became a hotbed of violence.<br />
Since early September a reduced workforce is now back at the site<br />
but progress is understandably slow. Target end date is 31st December<br />
2006.<br />
