Pudavaikkadu GMMS is a
Primary Grade school with
classes from Grades 1-5. The
school has a total of 184 students.
This school was allocated to
Rotary on 3rd March 2005.
After initial site inspection
and clearing, the designs were
approved in May 2005.
There was diffi culty in getting
people to work in the area and
due to the special circumstances,
the construction work is being
shared by four contractors with
the Lead Club acting as the coordinator
of all the contractors.
The Foundation stone was
laid in mid September and
full mobilization of all four
contractors took place in early
October 2005.
Work commenced and progressed
smoothly till end December
2005. In late December and
almost the whole of January
2006, there was tension in the

area following several incidents of violence.
The work pace picked up again in February and March and continued
until the local New Year Holidays in mid April 2006.
The months of June and July saw progress at a very good pace but
unfortunately the escalation of violence in the area in early August
caused a drastic reduction in the workforce.
In mid August the site was vacated on safety concerns as the area
became a hotbed of violence.
Since early September a reduced workforce is now back at the site
but progress is understandably slow. Target end date is 31st December
2006.
