PUDAVAIKKADU GMMS Trincomalee Address Pudavaikkadu, Tincomalee Students 184 Lead Club RC Trincomalee Associate Club 1 RC Seeduwa District Coordinator Michael Pereira Pudavaikkadu GMMS is a Primary Grade school with classes from Grades 1-5. The school has a total of 184 students. This school was allocated to Rotary on 3rd March 2005. After initial site inspection and clearing, the designs were approved in May 2005. There was diffi culty in getting people to work in the area and due to the special circumstances, the construction work is being shared by four contractors with the Lead Club acting as the coordinator of all the contractors. The Foundation stone was laid in mid September and full mobilization of all four contractors took place in early October 2005. Work commenced and progressed smoothly till end December 2005. In mid August the site was vacated on safety concerns as the area became a hotbed of violence. Since early September a reduced workforce is now back at the site but progress is understandably slow. PUTHUMUGATHAWARAM VIDYALAYA Batticaloa Address Puthumugathawaram, Batticaloa. Students 304 Lead Club RC Colombo Metropolitan Associate Club 1 RC Kandy Metropolitan District Coordinator Nalin Fernando Puthumugathuwaram Roman Catholic Tamil Missionary school is a Primary and Secondary Grade school with classes from Grades 1-10 (O Level). The school has a total of 304 students, 149 male and 155 female. It has 14 teachers. This school which was formerly known as Ignatius College was one of those schools which had to be relocated owing to its close proximity to the coast. However we faced a lot of frustration in obtaining an alternate site on which to build the school and it was only in May 2006 that we fi nally resolved all the issues. The original block of land allocated to us was claimed by another Government agency and we had to redo all our designs. “However we faced a lot of frustration in obtaining an alternate site on which to build the school” School Sponsors The Rotary Foundation Reconstruction Cost 49.50 million (LKR) The next block of land given to us too had many claimants to its ownership and when everything was fi nally cleared it was May 2006. We then went through quite a long tender process before we fi nally awarded the contract in August 2006. The Contractor has just begun mobilization of his workforce and is clearing the site. Construction work is expected to commence by mid September 2006.
