Thettativu Sivakalai Vidyalaya is
a Primary and Secondary Grade
school with classes from Grades
1-10(O Level). The school has 14
teachers and 320 students - 159
boys and 141 girls.
Work began in February 2005
with the cleaning out of the
school premises and preliminary
inspections being made.
After delays in paperwork
and awarding of contract, the
foundation stone was laid on
11th September 2005. Despite
workforce being mobilized to
begin construction work, this was
delayed owing to a MoE request
to incorporate a few changes in
structural designs.
In October 2005, Further delays
were faced due to slow pace of
demolition work. An ultimatum
was also issued to the contractor
to increase the pace of work
immediately or face penalties
for delay. Subsequently work
continued at a reasonable pace
at site though slightly behind
schedule
“since July work continues to progress very
slowly owing to reduced workforce following
security concerns in the area with Project staff
monitoring situation on a daily basis.”

Construction work continued to progress well and on schedule through
to December, when overseas sponsors from West Germany visited the
site and witnessed ongoing work.
As construction work continued at a reasonable pace an initial target
date of 30th June 2006 was set. However this was later changed as
New Year holidays reduced the workforce considerably.
Work resumed at the site in May progressing satisfactorily however,
since July work continues to progress very slowly owing to reduced
workforce following security concerns in the area with Project staff
monitoring situation on a daily basis.
We are hopeful that the work pace will pick up once again and are
looking at a completion date of end December 2006.
