High definition media formats such as Blu-ray have brought a new<br />

dimension to visual entertainment. Audio technology has gone through<br />

a matching revolution, with the introduction of the highest quality audio<br />

formats — Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. <strong>Pioneer</strong>’s new<br />

VSX-LX50 A/V receiver now offers all the benefits of the new generation<br />

audio formats. These new audio codecs are capable of delivering<br />

lossless sound that is bit-for-bit identical to the studio master. The<br />

synergy of high-definition picture complemented with life-like sound<br />

creates an unprecedented home theater experience, exactly as the<br />

artist intended. The VSX-LX50 also has the latest HDMI ver. 1.3a for<br />

supporting high definition audio and video transfer by a single cable.<br />

Innovations for Superior Sound<br />

Phase Control — An Innovation for Multi-Channel Sound Compensation<br />

When amplifying multi-channel audio signals, receivers use<br />

Low Pass Filter (LPF) for processing low-frequency signals for<br />

subwoofer output. This extra process causes “phase lag”, or<br />

approximately 5 msec delay of low-frequency signals with<br />

respect to those of main channels. The delayed bass affects the quality of<br />

main-channel sound and makes the sound lack synchronization.<br />

The latest A/V receivers incorporate <strong>Pioneer</strong>’s Phase Control<br />

technologies, which apply a new bass management system to effectively<br />

compensate for the phase lag between subwoofer channel and the main<br />

channels. This significantly improves the multi-channel sound without<br />

any extra operation.<br />

Acoustic standing waves occur when the sound waves from your speaker<br />

resonate with those reflected off the walls. This gives a negative effect on<br />

the overall sound, especially in certain lower frequencies. The result is an<br />

overly resonant "boomy" sound, depending on the speaker placement,<br />

your listening position, and the shape of the room. Standing Wave<br />

Control effectively moderates resonance and also prevents inaccurate EQsetting<br />

calibration.<br />

MCACC allows you to duplicate the acoustic environment<br />

are mixed and mastered. With the <strong>Pioneer</strong> A/V receivers,<br />

the system — complete with a microphone — compensates<br />

for differences in speaker size, speaker level, and speaker distance, and<br />

equalizes, all automatically.<br />

32-bit Digital Processing by "The 3rd-Generation SHARC ®<br />

Processor"<br />

and 48-bit processing DSP from Freescale, Inc. (VSX-LX50)<br />

The VSX-LX50 incorporates "The 3rd-Generation SHARC ® Processor" from<br />

Analog Devices, Inc., with 32-bit quality audio processing, and Freescale<br />

DSP with 48-bit processing precision. The addition of high-performance<br />

DSPs has enabled true 32-bit processing, giving optimum sound quality,<br />

compatibility with all the latest surround formats, and the highest<br />

possible decoding capability.<br />

Advanced Direct Energy Power Amplifier — Designed by<br />

<strong>Pioneer</strong> for Optimum Sound Quality (VSX-LX50, VSX-1017AV-S)<br />

Power amplification in all channels is performed by originally-designed<br />

Advanced Direct Energy Power Amplifier, featuring minimum energy loss<br />

and minimum interference between circuits. These features combine to<br />

deliver high-quality sound that is close to the original.<br />

The device features “low-impedance, high-current” design, which<br />

minimizes the impedance at the final output stage. This effectively<br />

reduces the loss of the signals.<br />

The advanced amplifier also reduces the electric/magnetic<br />

interference from the final output stage which significantly affects the<br />

sound quality. This is made possible by the compact design of the circuit —<br />

with the minimum size of the loop — for the final output stage.<br />

What’s more, the device features a new temperature compensation<br />

function for bias circuitry. Temperature of the output circuit is subject to<br />

change due to the speaker-driving current. The temperature fluctuations<br />

cause bias point deviation, which lowers the sound quality. The power<br />

amplifier for the new A/V receiver effectively compensates for the<br />

fluctuations to minimize the bias point deviation.<br />

Moreover, the VSX-LX50 and VSX-1017AV-S have a<br />

double expanded range for acoustic measurements from<br />

0 to 160 msec including the direct sound area. You can<br />

make automatic or manual selection of the equalization point for more<br />

precise acoustic adjustments suited to your room environment.<br />

<strong>Pioneer</strong> Hybrid Amplifier Design II uses a newly selected module, for<br />

improved sound quality and total harmonic distortion (THD). The output<br />

transistors feature lower base capacitors than the previous model,<br />

realizing wider range of current drive stage. The module has also<br />

decreased in size, and the smaller feedback loop minimizes influences<br />

from the noise. Parts have been carefully selected, such as the power<br />

amplifier capacitors chosen by listening tests, and the pre-amp IC which<br />

minimizes the signal path in Direct mode.<br />

With Front Stage Surround Advance<br />

you can enjoy surround sound with<br />

only the front speakers and the<br />

subwoofer. Since wall reflections are<br />

not used, the setup is less dependent<br />

on the room environment, allowing<br />

front alignment of the speakers. Front<br />
