Morten Lander, also called Kamikaze, is an old fox in the game, and with his ability to adapt to the new powerful style of kitesurfing he wins just about every competition he enters. The winner of last year’s Wave Classic in Sweden, Peter Schramm sticks to the old school style with high jumps, board-offs, lots of rotations, and an occasional kiteloop. He does it well and has a nice style, but his strong side is definitely the wave riding which made him a strong candidate for the title. The Swedes: Henke, Jesper, Kicki, and Filip were in it most for fun, but when the smoke and the waves were gone Jesper Berg stood as the winner of the event. Jesper entertained with a really good display, and showed to be equally comfortable in the jumps and in the waves. Jespers powerful backside riding probably influenced the judges, as most of the others rode frontside. In addition Jesper was riding the waves unhooked, which was rare. Anyway it felt good to get revenge on the Danish after their domination in last year’s wave classic event in Sweden. There is not so mush to say about the competition itself. Kitesurferen.dk, with Thomas Alsbirk as the front person, offered a well-arranged event without any surprises. In Denmark they arrange so many competitions that it is difficult to do a big thing around each one of them, but it is really no need to do that either. Getting together to have fun and get inspired is what it is all about. But of course there is a bit of prestige involved as well and it probably hurt a little to have a Swede taking the title. 25
