The red panda (Ailurus fulgens), endemic to <strong>the</strong> temperate forests <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Eastern <strong>Himalayas</strong>, is declining over much <strong>of</strong> its range as a result <strong>of</strong> habitat<br />

loss and fragmentation. Forests are being cleared, resulting in <strong>the</strong> loss <strong>of</strong><br />

nesting trees and bamboo shoots, prime food <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> red panda.<br />
