Dear Parish Family,
HAPPY SAINT PATRICK’S DAY!!! (March 17)
As I write this letter the Cardinals of the Catholic
Church are ready to go into Conclave to elect the new
Pope. Perhaps, by now we already know who he is.
However these last several weeks have been a time of
grace for our Church. Many people have been talking
about our Catholic Faith, our traditions and our hopes.
Yes, certainly, some have also been talking about our
failures, and rightfully so. But, we are entering a new era
for the Church and recognizing weaknesses and sins, we
can come into a future with a new strength for
preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. With a new Holy
Father leading us in prayer and service to the world we
can look with a renewed hope to bring Catholic values
to a world which needs renewal. We can never forget
that WE are the Church and all of us need to live up to
what we profess with our lips. May the Lord who
strengthens us for this endeavour renew the face of the
earth.
Over the last several weeks we have been called to pray
for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI on his resignation,
prayer for the Church during the Sede Vacante (the
vacant cathedra of the Bishop of Rome), and prayer for
the Cardinals as they met in Congregations and in
Conclave. It has been a time of prayer for all of us.
As you know I will be retiring on July 1 st ; so, it is a
good time (almost four months) to pray for my
successor – the one who will be your new Pastor. It is a
time for prayer to the Holy Spirit to guide the
Archbishop in his choice and a time for our parish that
the Pastor we need, will be the one appointed.
Thank you to our Hospitality Committee for serving
the Irish Soda Bread and St. Joseph Zeppoles today.
